Abortion Fits GOP Philosophy, Says Giuliani
By Jeff McKay

New York, N.Y. (CNSNews.com) - While the national Republican platform is decidedly pro-life and has been for the past two decades, the GOP mayor of the nation's largest city believes his party's philosophical underpinnings are more in tune with the pro-abortion point of view.
New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said favoring the availability of abortion is "more consistent with the philosophy of the Republican Party."
Giuliani made his eyebrow-raising remarks at an awards luncheon April 6 sponsored by the National Abortion Rights Action League in New York City, a leading abortion group.
[...Snip...]
Kelli Conlin, the executive director of the New York chapter of NARAL, applauded Giuliani's views. She called the mayor "a great advocate for us," and said it was "unfortunate the leadership of the GOP has moved into a direction where they want to implant government control on the lives of women and on reproductive freedom."
Although some of the state's top Republicans favor the availability of abortion - both Giuliani and Gov. George Pataki are supporters of abortion rights - their views on the issue are not shared by all in the New York GOP.
"Rudy Giuliani is not the poster child for the Republican Party. His values are completely out-of-step with the views of the GOP," said Lori Hougen, spokesperson for the New York chapter of the National Right to Life.

NewsMax has had several articles showing how the anti-Rudy crowd will take his comments out of context and never show how he really feels about abortion.

Another thing, if we truly believe in small government would it be suffice to say that we should think that the states should decide abortion??? To me abortion falls under the category Ammendment 10 of the US Constitution. Again something that we decry that lack of use(rightfully so).
If you want a small fed, then you believe that abortion should be left up to the states.. That is how I see it...

NewsMax has had several articles showing how the anti-Rudy crowd will take his comments out of context and never show how he really feels about abortion. Really. So the guy that was called a "champion" of abortion by one of the nation's leading abortion advocacy groups, who spoke at one of their events praising abortion and the work of pro-nazi eugenicist Margaret Sanger is the victim of people "misquoting" him on abortion?
Now, maybe, just possibly, it could be that Giuliani is stridently pro-abortion. Have you considered that possibility? I mean, he does support even partial birth abortion and he did say that he would pay to have his own grandchild butchered by an abortionist. But that doesn't make him pro-abortion. Nah...not at all.

I would hope so! Do you prefer an uninformed voter? Jumping to conclusions is a bad habit.

Actually, I don't think Rudy can win (no I don't like him) any more than I think Newt can win (Yes, I basically like him).
I despised all the talk of Rudy for president after 9/11. He handled 9/11 well, but it made him no more of a conservative, no less a Liberal. The GOP platform is strongly pro-life and Rudy decidedly isn't. The GOP platform is pro-second amendment and Guilianni isn't and on and on.
No candidate has to agree with me 100% of the time, but Rudy and I don't even agree 50% of the time.

Beats me, besides Rudy can't overturn Roe v Wade, the court has to overturn it, and if Rudy is going to nominate constituionist to the court than fine...

The 2006 election results should have put a scare into ALL Republicans. The GOP can't win elections without conservatives. Specifically, social conservatives.
Social conservatives turned out. Moderates and libertarions did not. Ask George Allen and Rick Santeram. You have it backwards.

PRESIDENT Bush, is already President, mute point It's actually a valid point. You're not going to get rid of abortion, unless some Congresscritter grows balls and passes a Constitutional Amendment or the Supremes reverse their horrible decision.
The best you can do is take the taxpayer money out of it and enacting federal guideline & restrictions. This would be the Rudy approach, similiar to how he reduced the city's welfare rolls.

Matters of conscience should be respected, and I agree with John that killing fetuses that would be viable outside the womb is some form of serious moral murder (welll maybe John does not quite agree with that, and is more "liberal" than I on this one, since he mentions just PBA, which I find a distraction as a locus of any import in and of itself; the line into grave "sin" in my mind is viability), unless the fetus threatens the mother with severe and demonstrable and court found physical harm (absent an emergency). (As an aside, the former sentence blows as prose big time, but I hope it makes some sense. It would NEVER make one of my legal briefs. :) )
But does it really matters what POTUS thinks on this issue? Does not what really matters is just whom the POTUS nominates for SCOTUS? Isn't THAT where the focus of attention should lie?

Abortions declined significantly while he was mayor. That would sound fantastic except total abortions in the U.S declined 29% and only 16.86% in NYC.
Next.

So they declined at half the rate that they did for the country as a whole, but I'm supposed to pat Rudy the partial birth abortion supporter on the back?
First, I hear "Rudy had no control over abortion", even though he went out of his way to vocally support it and identify himself as a supporter, but then I get "abortions declined while Rudy was mayor". Which is it?
BTW, you mentioned earlier that Rudy enacted no policies that resulted in increased gun control, but the issuance of carry permits declined 25% during his administration.
