United Flight 23 on 9-11
History Channel | 1-6-2007 | Self

Posted on 01/10/2007 10:21:56 AM PST by TruthWillWin

Saw a documentary, "Grounded on 9-11" on the History Channel a few days ago that mentioned something major about 9-11 that I have not heard before.

At 9:00AM on 9-11 United Airlines sent to all planes a warning message regarding the other hijacks. On United Flight 23, that was on the runway, the captain decided on his own not to take off. He fakes a mechanical problem and returns to the gate!

When the passengers were asked to exit the plan three Middle Eastern men, or possibly as many as six, refuse to follow the request to deplane. Security is called but they flee before it arrived. Later, authorities check their luggage and find copies of the Koran and al-Qaeda instruction sheets.

I thank God for President Bush. It was the right person at the right time.

Yeah. Imagine Al Gore. {{{{{SHUDDER}}}}}

Why not the same for Flight 23, an obvious terriorist hijacking attempt?

Possibly because the authorities were tailing them and didn't want to tip them off. If you want someone to lead you to his associates the last thing you need is a "Wanted" poster.

Why have not we heard more about this?

It's not new information. I've heard about it before. I don't know if the men were tracked down. With all the other screw-ups it wouldn't surprise me if they got away.

Was this a flight out of DFW, delayed by a cargo net issue?

United 23 was JFK to LAX. Do you have a link about this DFW flight. You've got me curious now.

Perhaps, but Kirk is adamant that Ballinger did save the passengers and crew of United Flight 23, which on Sept. 11 was about to depart from Newark, N.J., to Los Angeles. Kirk believes Flight 23 was going to be commandeered.

Thanks to Ballinger's quick call, the flight crew told passengers it had a mechanical problem and immediately returned to the gate.

Later, Ballinger was told six men initially wouldn't get off the plane. Later, when they did, they disappeared into the crowd, never to return. Later, authorities checked their luggage and found copies of the Qu'ran and al-Qaida instruction sheets.

"I felt good about that one," Ballinger said.

And well he should. Obviously there was more. Will we ever know how many?

Yeah. On the Friday news dump the week we establish diplomatic relations with space aliens.

I'm thinking it was the San Antonio flight someone mentioned above. I haven't seen one word about it in the press since a week after the attacks.

I do know the potential hijackers were later arrested trying to board an Amtrak train (also in San Antonio). But there hasn't been much discussion of it since.

God knows, but maybe not the government. I'm absolutely certain the government knew there was a possibility of hijackings. But I'm also sure the government did not know exactly what they were to be looking for.

Many of my family had gone to Massachusetts on Sept. 5 to bury my father in the family plot. Very light security on that day despite travel advisories about possible hijackings. On the evening of the tenth many of us returned to California. Security was extraordinarily tight with extra security checking everything. Our flight was rerouted twice, and on a lay over in Cincinnati we watched from the tarmac as an entire terminal (United Airlines as I recall) was emptied while police and fire crews encircled the building. Didn't sleep a wink the entire way home, and was extremely aware of every person on our flight of Middle East decent.

Y'all need to get this through your heads 9/11 was a FAILED attack.

Yes.

And while the rest of us were trying to comprehend the events of that morning, those brave patriots aboard Flight 93 were fighting the first battle in the War. They sacrificed themselves to save countless others on the ground at the intended destination.

Each and every one of them should have been awarded the Congressional Medal or a comparable award for their valiant battle. Those brave patriots fought the Islamists that morning and defeated the Islamists by stopping them from completing their mission.

And our government's response? Ban the use of cellphones on flights. *sigh*

I think the highest a civilian can get is the Presidential Medal of Freedom. And I agree with you.

I did not know that was a United airplane, but I remember that as one of the many stories which spawned from that day.

I had always wondered what happened with it and a few other stories also.

Then he looks at the monitors and says - well, obviously the tower has not fallen.

He was watching and commenting upon a replay of the second plane crashing into the towers, IOW, the tower "has not fallen [in the picture we are looking at here]," but at that moment in time the tower had indeed fallen.

I remember hearing or reading something about this in the day or two right after 9/11, and I always wondered what happened with this. Hope those guys have been seriously pursued.....

I can't recall it, but there were so many rumors and contradictory reports in the days after so it may have been one I had overlooked or ignored.

Thanks for the ping.. I'll read up on the rest of the thread and info later.

I don’t remember the specifics, but here are a few facts from my memory. I lived in Dallas at the time. Two ME guys were picked up on a train in Fort Worth. They had been on the train from somewhere north (possibly St Louis). They had a bag with box cutters and a lot of cash. They were bound for San Antonio.

I may be off somewhere in there, but that is what I remember.

I think it is clear, for good or bad, that the govt. did not want to scare the public further with stories about more terrorists out there free to attack again. These stories disappeared quickly, and that’s about when the tradition began of pronouncing every unusual event as NOT a terrorist attack.
