FReeper Canteen ~ It's A Baby Shower ~ 09 January 07
The Canteen Crew | Serving The Best Troops In The World

Posted on 01/08/2007 5:59:26 PM PST by Kathy in Alaska

Welcome To The Canteen's Online Baby Shower
for all our Grandmothers-To-Be!
Luv W -- her son David, an active duty member of the US Air Force, and his wife are expecting baby #1

Lisa Malia - 2nd grandbaby, due in August

Mountain Flower - grandbaby due in July

Laurenmarlowe - grandbaby is due at the end of January

I like to walk with grandma,
Her steps are short like mine.
She doesn't say "Now hurry up",
She always takes her time.

I like to walk with grandma,
Her eyes see things like mine do -
Wee pebbles bright, a funny cloud,
Half hidden drops of dew.

Most people have to hurry,
They don't stop and see
I'm glad that God made Grandma.
Unrushed, and young like me.

~Poem by Thena Smith~

Grandmothers

Grandmas are moms with lots of frosting.

There's no place like home except Grandma's.
Author Unknown

A house needs a grandma in it.
Louisa May Alcott

When a child is born, so are grandmothers.
Judith Levy

Grandmas never run out of hugs or cookies.
Author Unknown

It is as grandmothers that our mothers come into the fullness of their grace.
Christopher Morley

We should all have one person who knows how to bless us despite the evidence, Grandmother was that person to me.
Phyllis Theroux

A grandmother is a mother who has a second chance."
Author Unknown

Grandmas hold our tiny hands for just a little while.....but our hearts forever.
Author Unknown

If nothing is going well, call your grandmother.
Italian Proverb

A grandmother is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend
Author Unknown

Perfect love sometimes does not come till the first grandchild.
Welsh Proverb

Uncles and aunts, and cousins, are all very well, and fathers and mothers are not to be despised; but a grandmother, at holiday time, is worth them all.
Fanny Fern

If I had known how wonderful it would be to have grandchildren, I'd have had them first.
Lois Wyse

You do not really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother.
Proverb

A grandma's name is little less in love than is the doting title of a mother.
William Shakespeare

It is as grandmothers that our mothers come into the fullness of their grace. When a man's mother holds his child in her gladden arms he is aware of the roundness of life's cycle; of the mystic harmony of life's ways.
Christopher Morley

Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children.
Alex Haley

Becoming a grandmother is wonderful. One moment you're just a mother. The next you are all-wise and prehistoric.
Pam Brown

My grandmother always used to say, “If you know your past and you know where you have to go, why do you rehearse?” I always remember this and it’s true. You have to start each day again—you can’t repeat what you did.
Marian Seldes

My Grandmother would say, "Make sure you look good. Make sure you speak well. Make sure you remain that Southern gentleman that I’ve taught you to be."
Jamie Foxx

To reform a man, you must begin with his grandmother.
Victor Hugo

Grandma always made you feel she had been waiting to see just you all day and now the day was complete.
Marcy DeMaree

A grandmother pretends she doesn't know who you are on Halloween.
Erma Bombeck

It's such a grand thing to be a mother of a mother - that's why the world calls her grandmother.
Author Unknown

It took me a long time to get used to the reality that my grandmother had passed away. Wherever I was, in the house, in the garden, out on the fields, her face always appeared so clearly to me.
Huynh Quang Nhuong

When trying to determine the difference between a negative and positive force, ask yourself, "How will I feel when my mother and grandmother read about this in the front page of the newspaper?"
David DeNotaris

A mother becomes a true grandmother the day she stops noticing the terrible things her children do because she is so enchanted with the wonderful things her grandchildren do.

That's a lot of news in one post.

You get one back safe and sound and now have to put the worry machine back on line.

Hugs

Yes.:(

The application process takes a long time, though; if she gets it in by the end of the month, she probably wouldn't be leaving until fall at the earliest. They really screen the volunteers carefully. She has to write essays, provide references, transcripts, etc. - almost like a college application.

She wants to go to either a French-speaking country, like Senegal, or somewhere in South America.

The French left pest holes everywhere.

The places the Brits went for a long time generally ended up with functioning democracies....and with prosperity.

India, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaca...
All independent and fully functional..

Not so with the French.

Hugs Mom.. Don't worry too much just yet.

And THANKS to all who are serving -- we keep you all in our prayers, and your families as well.
