The U.S.- Mexico Social Security Totalization Agreement ...an agreement signed between the Bush administration and the Mexican government in 2004 that would funnel billions of U.S. Social Security funds to Mexican citizens. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has already warned that as a result of this agreement, the number of unauthorized Mexican workers and family members eligible for social benefits will likely increase. The Social Security Administration itself warns that Social Security is within decades of bankruptcy - yet they seem to have no problem making agreements that hasten its demise...

You are completely and utterly incorrect. I suggest that you go read FR's archives, since your memory has betrayed you very badly.

You'd be surprised at the private messages I got prior to the Nov 2006 elction from so-called republicans in USENET and here at FR (atleast one posting in this thread) openly advocating that a democrat win would be more positive for the economy because it would be easier passage of "Comprehensive Immigration Reform." They figure that if a person speaks spanish they just MUST be on the side of illegals. To me, that's bigotry.
I was surprised to see them try to encourage me to anger those republicans against "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" to the point that they may stay home and not vote. I've also noticed that some of them no longer post here. They must have gotten caught an banned. I see there are still some left.

I dont need to read the archives. Im in the archives. I recently changed my nic because my old one was dated with a "2002" in the name.

I'm inclined to agree. Sadly, they're taking all of us down the tube with them.

I have to agree with nonpardons...Clinton vetoed the bill twice, and then ONLY signed it because the toesucker told him he would be defeated in re-election if he didn't.

I am not saying Ms. Barnhart was lying. Government officials have a tendency to look at the most favorable outcome, which usually doesn't happens. Have you ever seen a public highway, stadium, building, etc. that's come in under budget?

I've been, pretty much, a Bushbot from the get go, and not only is this bad, but somehow, Uncle Sam has the right to open my mail without probable cause too.
I don't know what's going on over there.

"And the Mexican government dummies up the other 34 quarters, thus not having to support its citizens in their old age. Brilliant plan."
A brilliant fraud. I respect Bush here like one might respect a expert jewel thief.

The week following the election both George Bush and Tony Snow publicly stated they thought it would be easier to pass "comprehensive immigration reform" with the new Congress.

You're right about that.

Reading between the lines, I was getting that vibe from some other FReepers myself.

Did you read about Arnold wanting to give health insurance to illegals? First he wants to start with the kids of illegals, then the illegals themselves. So in essence, the people of Cali will eventually be paying for health insurance for the entire world (since an illegal can come from any country, not just Mexico). *Sigh*..Remember the good old days when Republicans actually use to act like Republicans? The selling out is incredible.

I want to give Bush every benefit of the doubt, too, but he is making it so hard.
But blind defense of him is strictly out of the question.

Not in my book -- it is as true today as it was the first time I heard it and we have to let our Reps know that we are vehemently opposed to this deal. Every last Freeper should write and call their Congressman demanding that they take a stand on this. With my two Senators, Inhofe and Coburn, that's a piece of cake.
I am not one to throw in the towel and I know they can be counted on to do the right thing in the Senate -- talk as long as they have to and make sure this doesn't become law.

Conservatives "sitting out" is one of the big myths of the 2006 election.
Read post #91 (Pew Research Center exit poll). A very large number of people considered a vote against the GOP a vote against George Bush - primarily "Reagan Democrats" and independents Bush had alienated.

For going on fifty years, Democrats have had to make the most absurd verbal contortions, and even lie outright, in order to get elected, because their actual agenda is unpopular, and they would not succeed otherwise.
It would appear that a fair number of Republicans, including our president, are now doing the same. No amount of name calling, misdirection or political sleight of hand can get them past the fact that it took two years of wrangling and the Freedom Of Information Act for this to see the light of day.
Secrecy and disdain for the voting public have become hallmarks of both political parties. We're being played for fools, while our country is being taken out from under us, I'm beginning to believe.

I never bought that line. No "conservative" I know would ever blow off an election, especially when the stakes are so high.
