Just to prove that Fox News Channel doesn't live up to the liberal stereotype of Music to Conservative Ears, angry E-mailers are demanding someone denounce Fred Barnes and Morton Kondracke for slamming conservatives who staunchly oppose illegal immigration. In their year-end Beltway Boys "awards show" this weekend, there was this clip of agreement:
Kondracke: "Our 'Dumbest Move' award of the year is Republicans trashing immigrants. And this - this has disastrous consequences for the, in the election. The Hispanic vote, which is the fastest-growing element of the population, went 55 to 42 percent Democratic in 2004. This time, it went 76 to 26. And it's all because of this stupid wall that the House Republicans wanted to build, and rejected their own president's plan for a comprehensive immigrant reform in preference to cozying up to radio talk show hosts."
Barnes: "I don't think it's the wall, per se. I think it's their whole attitude toward immigrants in general, but particularly Hispanic immigrants. It seemed mean-spirited, and, you know, American voters are generally not mean-spirited. You, you're going to have some kind of a wall at some point, but you have to a lot of other things, too."
Kondracke: "Yes. The wall only is the problem."
Later, the Beltway Boys also slammed CNN's Lou Dobbs:
Kondracke: "Blowhard of the Year award goes to CNN's Lou Dobbs. Now this is a guy who also could qualify for Turncoat of the Year."
Barnes: "Yes."
Kondracke: "When he used to be a cheerleader for capitalism and for corporate America. Now he is a demagogue, it amounts for populists and potectionists and xenophobes. And he doesn't have any answers."
Barnes: "And he's wrong. You know, the fact is, the rolling up our borders and pulling out of the globalized economy is a way to achieve one thing: a lower standard of living."
Kondracke: "Yes. Poverty. Yes, exactly. Absolutely."
I hope you will accept my apology. I have been on many, many immigration threads with posters that would make stormfronters look like Mother Theresa, and I apologize for linking you with that group of posters
Also that group of posters, IMO, hate Bush more than pelosi & co.
And you are betting your life and your children's lives on it. History teaches a different lesson with a nasty ending for conquered peoples.
Good advice, want to see the future? Visit L.A.
btw, if the Dems built the wall, did mass deportations of illegals, and ended congressional pensions for convicted felons, then I would seriously consider voting for a moderate Dem in the future.
Personally I'm getting tired of Freepers (and others) who see immigration as the sole issue of our time. Let's face it-we are simply not going to deport tens of millions of people, some of whom have been here for years if not decades. Real reform, which is what Bush was offering, is not amnesty or surrendering to El Invasion. It is an offer of citizenship to those who want it and who are willing to earn it. A wall alone is not the answer, and neither are goofballs like Tom Tancredo.
Yeah we really have to worry about Mrs. O'Hara or Mr. Santelli down the street, after all 100 years ago they were called dirty Irish and WOP's.
Well you keep on posting jpsb, I can't save you from your own silliness.
The guy had an approval rating of 32% before 9/11 happenned. He is a media creation that left-side-of-the-bell-curve TV watchers, to say nothing of RINOS, love.
Big diference Dane, the Irish came to become American, the illegal (thier leaders) come to take back the south west which they believe belongs to Mexico.
I am very anti illegal immigration and I am also against Dubya's Amnesty program however lets look at it realistically.
The program started with pay a fine and back taxes.
That is the starting point. So after we count on one hand the number who will do it what did Dubya get ? Four legals and 12 million still illegal.
The illegals do not want citizenship, they want everything free and would not get past step one as they would not pay.
Sort of like that Kurt Russel movie " Escape from New York "?
It's bad enough that we have to carry our own domestic deadwood (democRATS), but the line is blatently crossed when we're expected to carry the deadwood of other countries as well.
You may be right...
The Beltway Boys are right. We lost the election over immigration. Ask J.D. Hayworth if he would run on immigration again. We lost 50% of the hispanic vote we gained in 2004.
I hope they push some immigration bill through Congress this year so we can put this issue behind us.
Glen Beck said on his show tonight that there is a loophole for illegals to get Social Security even off the money they earned while here illegally by using someone else's SS card. Not only that, illegals who become legal under this program, only have to work 18 months to be eligible for SS benefits, whereas we have to work at least 10 years. If true, what is wrong with this picture?
ClarenceThomasfan: Actually, they lost because of Iraq, scandal, and the fact that they didn't act like conservatives for six years.
If you think voter turnout is poor now, wait until that happens. The vast majority of Americans do NOT want illegals diluting the workforce, stealing free medical care, free education, and free use of all the other taxpayer-funded benefits that they now receive in this country. It's ridiculous to think otherwise.
We didn't lose the illegals vote, we lost the legals vote. They kinda didn't like what was being said about their fellow Mexcans.
It wasn't the idea, it was the rhetoric that cost us those southwestern districts.
No problem....that's exactly why I stayed off those threads.
I get highly emotional when the Bush haters show up. I lose all rational debating skills and any pretense of being civil flies out the window..... :-)
O.K. Frederico, it is mean as hell... but since you used that liberal code "mean-spirited," I'll consider you just as much the enemy from now on... good luck in the Democrat primary.
For cryin' out loud... is this Fred's coming out of the liberal closet issue?
