WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Hostess with the Mostest!
;>)
Nice service for a man who never got the respect he deserved.
Tom Brokaw at our OU Graduation in 2004 said that Pres Bush was selected not elected. I have it on video tape and am still mad at that comment.
I don't think those comments are necessary from anyone. Pres Ford became President because our Constitution worked.
lol - well it kinda works for both
I just heard that there will be another service tomorrow in Michigan, and Jimmah will be one of the eulogizers.
The Episcopal Church left us, not the other way around. I cherish my 20 years as a member, but am on my way to converting to Catholicism.
I do love the Book of Common Prayer though.
For sure!
I believe the Michigan service will be held today.
Carter accomplished selling out Israel, having our hostages held, and the debacle of a rescue mission that failed miserably. As for Slick, he is was and is morally bankrupt and lightening will probably strike if the word 'character' is used in his service.
well it's either that or the possibility is he was licking his eye crud off his fingers. Nevermind.
That's true. President Ford selected him. I will not listen..I'll mute him.
They don't hold weddings in that part of the National Cathedral. There's a special chapel downstairs for weddings, and funerals of regular folks. If you want to be married there, the chapel fee (as of 2000) is $5K for a half hour service!
Rummy will also be speaking, I think.
Jimmy Carter has had to listen to almost every speaker state the fact he only beat President Ford because Ford pardoned Nixon.
Just think of it from Jimmy's and Rosalynn's point of view. Sheer insult and torture!
Happy New Year and Good for you...(converting to Catholicism)...You're in good hands and on your way to heavenly glory, and I agree, I love the Book of Common Prayer, too.
And can you imagine anyone giving Slick's eulogy use the word character?
Absolutely on both counts. Remember, for Liberals the truth is fungible. Carter will be eulogized for "bringing peace" [ack] to the Middle East, for leading our nation out of the "scandals" of Watergate [ack again] and for his work with Habitat for Humanity.
Ol' Slick will be lionized for the economic wonders of the '90's. You know, the usual pap. Oh, and he "cared for the common man."
Exactly, somebody will be telling some pretty tall tales to make these 2 awful men come off as anything but failures.
I'll listen to Rummy. I think Carter will make it political, but I hope I'm wrong.
