WASHINGTON — Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.

As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

And it IS long. "Two football fields" is the usual way the measurement is expressed. A friend of mine got married there instead of in one of the side chapels, and later she said, "What was I THINKING?" because of the long march.

Ever notice clinton's spider fingers? They've always creeped me out.

One of my very favorites. "Casting down their golden crowns beside the glassy sea..." It inspires the imagination.

So am I! I can remember praying that Pres Reagan or Pres Ford would not die while Slick was President. The thought of having him escort Nancy Reagan or Betty Ford gave me the creeps.

She does an absolutey beautiful job with the song. It is my favorite version. Look on the Hymns Just For You album.

My great consolation is that my children know music and won't inflict any trash on those in attendance.

I had the pipes played at my mother's funeral, because her infirmity kept her from going to Scotland and England, which she had always wanted to visit.

They look like they're at a ball game instead of a national service. Just goes to show you that they dont know how to act. Who said "Character is what you do when nobody is looking?"

Martin Luther WAS a Catholic priest. So NO to your question. Love us or hate us, you all left us, not the other way around.

but he didn't have anything to do with the postal service to my understanding

Every service our government provides is through the Executive Branch.

Therefore, he was the de facto head of the US Postal Service.

I knew it was long but seeing it expressed in "two football fields" just made it longer in my mind. I cannot imagine walking down that long aisle. What a beautiful place to hold your wedding even with the long aisle. I have always loved the Washington Cathedral.

Though you can't really see it in this picture, you can when the cameras do an extreme close-up of Carter......It looks as though he's wearing clothes that he's kept from the 70's. All stripes.

Pin-striped suit, with a tiny-striped shirt and broad striped tie. It's dizzying.
