Mary Cheneys pregnancy poses problems not just for her child, but also for all Americans. Her action repudiates traditional values and sets an appalling example for young people at a time when father absence is the most pressing social problem facing the nation. With 37 percent of American children born to fatherless families, Mary Cheney is contributing to a trend that is detrimental to all Americans who will live with the ramifications of millions of children whose anger and frustration at not knowing their father will be felt in the public schools and communities of our nation.
Mary Cheney is among that burgeoning group of adult women over age 20 that are driving the trend of women who dont want a man in the picture, but want to have a baby. These older women are pushing out-of-wedlock birth statistics higher and higher. At a time when teen births and teen abortions are declining dramatically, older women are having more un-wed births and more abortions, including repeat abortions (indicating that they are using abortion as birth control).
Well-educated, professional Mary Cheney is flying in the face of the accumulated wisdom of the top experts who agree that the very best family structure for a childs well-being is a married mom and dad family. Her child will have all the material advantages it will need, but it will still encounter the emotional devastation common to children without fathers.
One Georgia high school principal reported, We have too many young men and women from single-mother families that dont have the role models at home to teach them how to deal with adversity and handle responsibility. Theyve seen their mom work 60 hours a week just to put food on the table; they end up fending for themselves.
When fatherless children get to be teens, the girls tend to start looking for love in all the wrong places and the boys tend to find as their role model the bad-boy celebrities of MTV, NFL and NBA.
As they grow older, fatherless children tend to have trouble dealing with male authority figures. Too often children in single-mother households end up angry at their absent fathers and resentful of the mother who has had to be a father figure, too. Typically, the boys who have a love-hate relationship with their mother end up hating all women. Numerous of them look for vulnerable women where they can act out their anger and be in control.
Mary Cheneys action sets an example that is detrimental for mothers with less financial resources who will start down an irrevocable path into poverty that tends to be generational children in households without a father tend to themselves have unwed births later in life. Experts from both the left and the right cite a disastrous litany of negative outcomes that are predictable when a child grows up in a fatherless family. Such children tend to get involved in drugs, alcohol abuse, and delinquency; they tend to drop out of school and have teen pregnancies. An assistant principal in a Junior High School said that many of the behavioral problems that teachers face in the classroom stem from households without a fathers influence.
Marys pregnancy is an in-your-face action countering the Bush Administrations pro-family, pro-marriage and pro-life policies. She continues to repudiate the work to which her father has devoted his life. Mary has repeatedly said that studies show that children only need a loving home. Her statement is incomplete because the experts agree that for the well-being of children, they desperately need a married father and a mother.
All those people who talk about doing what is best for our children need to get back to the basics: children need a married mom and dad. Children can do without a lot of the trimmings of childhood, but nothing can replace a home where the mother and dad love each other enough to commit for a lifetime and are absolutely crazy about their kids enough to be willing to sacrifice their own needs to see that their children get the very best.

The dysfunctional character of the African American community is a relatively recent phenomenon. At the turn of the last century, the illegitimacy rate among blacks (10%) was well below what it is in the overall population today (about one-third). When the moral fabric broke down due to a number of factors, not the least of which was the rampant rate of illegitimacy, dysfunctional and self-destructive behavior skyrocketed.
These libertines may have no use for the Western civilization and the Christian religion on which this nation was founded. That is their choice. However, they also choose to ignore the plain evidence of the destructive character of permissive and self-centered lifestyles in our black community. Billy Graham may be right about God's judgment on America, but He may not choose fire and brimstone, as was the case with Sodom and Gomorrah. Rather, we may rot internally through lack of discipline, drug and alcohol addition, STDs, and social chaos. Our Muslim and Communist enemies will find that America is an empty shell, ready to collapse just as the Roman Empire was to the Germanic barbarians in the 5th Century AD.
What the Vice President's daughter is doing is reprehensible. If she had any decency, she should place the child up for adoption.
Yeah, loving lesbians are the only couples that are free from discord in the home or splitting up. That's going to be a real eye opener for most people.
My main beef is your use of the word "conservative" (capitalized even) when plainly by your discussions here, you are not conservative.
You may vote Republican, and support Bush, but that does not make one conservative.
"I am talking about two women engaged in a 15-year monogamous relationship."
And you're accepting of something that is NOT the norm in gay society... assuming they've been loyal to each other.
A study was released in the Netherlands that indicated that married, gay couples had an average of 8 extra-marital partners PER YEAR. Gay women averaged slightly less at 6. So yes, "monogamy." So how many multiple times is that to what goes on in hetero couples?
And I really don't give a flying flip about the "diff." The bigger picture is far more important.
On an individual level, I am less concerned. Regarding a society that doesn't snub a homosexual "conceiving" a child and raising without a father, well, I'm a heck of a lot more concerned.
And I'll betcha the kids being raised by the grandmas will turn out fine!
We have neighbors who both work, have little to NO interest in what their kids are doing & they are both headed downhill fast!
So, having a father & mother who both work & don't want to be involved in their kids lives once they get home is a worse situation for the kids. Not all fathers are ones who the kids should pattern their lives after!
True. So, why is this a big media story? When the other daughter was expecting her 5th child, was there a press release about it? If not, why not? Lesbians having babies isn't some new thing. Making the fact public is what is new. Slowly, society has been "introduced" to the gay lifestyle. TV showcases gay couples. Trading Spaces, House Hunters, Birth Day, etc. The "Gay" lobby has been working hard for years to get us to this point. The condemnation of homosexuals is a thing of the past. Those that still oppose it are tagged as intolerant beasts. We're now an enlightened society. And Mary Cheney having a baby is a perfectly normal event. No more or less important than her sister having a baby. In a few more years, gay marriage will be normal, also. I think there will always be those who oppose it. But, they'll be a small minority.
Lesbians and single feminists make up 2/3rds and 1/5th of the inseminations performed at some public clinics. I think this does affect you.
1) **economic competitive, future leaders, traditional/secular culture**
strong family development gets pushed into a vice of abortion, on one hand, and disadvantaged development on the other. normal family development sinks and disadvantaged development rises.
watch the special that mtv aired on same sex couples raising children. the children lack the same memetic development of mom and dad families. one young man states he wishes that he had a dad because he feels like he missed things growing-up. no doubt.
i think that, even in light of the fact that china, india, et al will grow strong alliances with the US, we need well-developed generations of adults, and we need to sustain a traditional culture.
2) *wait lists*
same sex couples want the same priority as normal couples. is that fair? is that good?
Mary Cheney's reply is as weak as the replies on this forum: it just takes love, listen to my emotional anecdote.
Ms. Cheney has completed a vicious cycle of bad choices, and she's set a bad example.
Well, you know, maybe they felt that they could effect a very positive change in the lives of 2 sisters who were in need.
I'm sorry that you saw that as trendy, they didn't.
As for all the needy kids in America, I sure don't see a whole pile of conservatives rallying around to put their money where their mouths are and going out and adopting these kids.
re: Adam and Eve/Adam and Steve, that is tired old schtick. There was no Adam and Eve, it was a story designed to teach.

Guess what? What makes me a conservative is not, never has, and will never been defined by you.
So, mind your own business, like a conservative should.
None of our business. It's her decision, and her baby...some people just need to learn to shut up!
We agree. Our individual gay friends are doing just fine.
If you had read my earlier posts, you would have seen that I said a man and a woman are the ideal parents.
A lot of people don't read threads before they post.
Anecdotes are unverifiable flamebait. They do not persuade, and should not be considered as evidence.
As for your own statistical evidence, feel free to write-up a Wiki and pretend that it actually means something.
I never said that, don't put words in my mouth. People are people with flaws and all, yep, not all lesbian couples have perfect relationships, neither do straights. Ask the grand hypocrite Ted Haggard.
Either FR has become saturated with homosexualist supporters of the radical gay agenda, or conservatives are becoming libertines, or FR is becoming the hangout for "fiscal conservative/social liberals", which turn into fiscal liberals anyway. Since their socially liberal ideas create such hell that money is needed to pay for all the AIDS drugs, fatherless children, and mayhem in the streets.

This is a phycological experiment on children (raising them in and around the gay lifestyle) the results of which are yet to be seen for decades. It is appalling that anyone, gay or straight, would purposely bring a child into the world without a father and mother present for them. Mary Cheney had that herself but will deprive a child of a father.
No, they don't, and they don't understand that when the left thinks of conservatives, they think of folk like this. And that is a disservice to us all, because conservatives are judged by the worst among us.
Only a moron would fail to see the exhibited bias in these comments. You don't know what the overall statistics are for homosexuual adoptive parents. You don't know if their homes are more or less supportive than heterosexuals, yet you're willing to classify them all as not involving mistakes and 'setting high standards.'
You'll have to forgive me for pointing out they've already lowered their standards by the very act they are committing. Then bringing young impressionable children into that lifestyle is anything but setting high standards.
Your comments imply that heterosexuals don't set high standards, by comparison. You take one situation where it seems to be working out, extrapolate across the board that homosexuals really do it right, then cast dispersions at heterosexuals as if they were the problem.
What a ding-a-ling...
