The tendency to resent lies in all of us
And in America that tendency is institutionalized in the rat party.

I will fight for you, said the algore, meaning: resent anyone making more money than you.

We need to end the tax giveaway to the richest 1%, says the hildebeast, meaning: resent anyone making more money than you.

This discipline lies at the heart of Christianity and many argue that it lies at the heart of Islam too.

The argument that Islam is about peace and love is a deceitful tactic by those who carry the torch for Islam. It may be argued but it is a blatant lie.

Forgive faults in others? I think it has gone way beyond that. A group hug is not what they are looking for.

The tendency to resent lies in all of us, and can be overcome only by a discipline that tells us to blame faults in ourselves and to forgive faults in others. This discipline lies at the heart of Christianity and many argue that it lies at the heart of Islam too. If that is so, it is time for Muslims to organise against those who preach resentment in the name of their religion, and who regard the crimes of last Thursday as virtuous deeds, performed with God’s blessing, in a holy cause.

I don't see this happening unless the western world can come up with some way to de-program a massive amount of koranic koolaid drinkers in a relatively short period of time.

I don’t say that Nietzsche’s analysis is correct.

Freud thought it was correct...and Einstein agreed. That's good enough for me.

The notion that Islam will instill this type of discipline is a pipe dream. Maybe 500 years from now Islam will have watered down its ideology allowing this to happen. Maddraass (sp?) around the world are teaching Muslim children to hate your enemies; telling me it is going to worsen for a while.

Perhaps the only thing they will understand at some point is an Old Testament response. Utterly destroy them!!

There are too few of them, or too few willing to stand up. Just as there were too few "good Germans" to stand up against being consumed by Hitler's Nazism....for those who think a large number of people cannot be led to murderous raging extremist revenge against their "victim hood" .... or passive acceptance of such extremism's by others...in a short, very short time.

"Moderate muslims" who "speak up" are those who are having fatwas pronounced against them and their families, throats slit, bodies bombed and burned. "Moderate muslims" are those such as the majority of Iraqi civilians the Pelosi/Kerry/Dean wing of the democrat party is urging American to cut loose and withdraw from.

"religion of peace" --- not. Not without a serious reformation and I see little chance of that happening before a great world conflagration led by the rebellious and courageous of all beliefs. That is why the "religion of peace" is so threatened by the Pope. God help him.

Good post. I like his historical perspective and heartily agree with the linking of jihadists, jacobins, nazis, nihilists, anarchists and the IRA. However, "resentment" is too benign a characterization for the visceral and murderous hatred and plain inhumanity that links these groups. The reality is that most of the individuals who pull the triggers, plant the bombs and teach hatred are plain psychopaths - as evidenced by their collective proclivity to murder each other, viz., Stalin, Sunnis & Shiia, Crusaders, especially once they gain control. George Orwell's Animal Farm still has a lot to teach us.

There are other ways to make a dramatic statement. while killing oneself.

Why aren't the disgruntled Muslims setting themselves on fire, like the Buddhist monks did when they protested the War in Vietnam?

I could care less what supposed "grievances" these people have. That's an intellectual game for left-wingers.

Practically every word in this has the clarion ring of truth. But these are especially sound:

In dealing with terrorism you are confronting a resentment that is not concerned to improve the lot of anyone, but only to destroy the thing it hates. That is what appeals in terrorism, since hatred is a much easier and less demanding emotion to live by than love, and is much more effective in recruiting a following.

All the lofty rhetoric aside, muslim terrorism is not about promoting the word of allah or avenging past wrongs or cleansing the world of its secular stains. It is about the widening gulf between a culture still mired in the Dark Ages, and one that is advancing at a geometric rate.

Technology alone does not beget civility, but a lack of material advancement tends to promote barbarism. islam is a perfect example.

Islamist terrorists who have targeted our cities, they tend to be well educated, specialists in medicine, engineering or computer science, people who might have helped to provide the Middle East with the stable middle class that it so badly needs, but instead have chosen another and faster route to glory.

It seems to me that we will be nearer to understanding terrorism if, instead of looking at what terrorists have in common, we look at what is common to their victims. The targets of terrorism are groups, nations or races. And they are distinguished by their worldly success — either material or social.

Finally - someone who understands it's the bored and the jealous. It's the folks who "feel" they should have more - even if having more means destroying what others have... Didn't God warn about those who "covet"...

Muslims = levelers.

Meaning they want to bring all mankind down to their level where faith in Allah explains all and conquerers all. They are extremely agitated and busy with the cult of their false prophet but making no progress for themselves or mankind. Jews are only 15 million world wide but they contribute 500 times more to technological, medical , scientific advances

Success breeds resentment, and resentment breeds hate.

A wise old Jewish friend of mine used to say "Why does he hate me -- I never helped him!". The point made is that helpful, generous, charitable works must be done carefully, for they bring considerable resentment. He who gives/helps automatically gains status over the one helped, who is automatically placed in an inferior position, That breeds a LOT of resentment, and then hate.

In other words, it is not just our success in the US that breeds resentment, but even more so our flaunting of it by being the most generous rich nation in history.

This guy sounds sorta right, but the bottom line is the radical islmaics resent us for our not being moslem in their image of the 'islmaic ideal'. and for our entire culture and faith or lack of faith for the securlarists in the west whom they also hate.

"The terrorist is not an aggressor but a victim, and we must disarm him not by violence but by addressing the grievance that motivates his deeds."

Well you could also arm them with missiles, nuclear bombs and gunships then they would be able to use those. They would not have to resort to terrorist tactics any longer because they would have real weapons. Right?
