Because democracy is loathsome to elitists like Trudeau. They sneer at the thought that all those stupid Arabic-speaking people could ever have a working democracy, because they don't even like the working democracy America has. They believe government should be run only by Smarty-Pants like them, not by the unwashed masses who stupidly elect President who don't pronounce "nucular" the way they do. BINGO

That brought tears to my eyes. My daughter has cerebral palsy. The doctors have said that she should be very disabled, but she mainly just has a speech problem. I can't even imagine the burden of having such a disabled child, and I can't imagine the loss they suffered when he died.
I think this is one author that I can support.

Maybe because it's never been funny.

He has written some historical fiction that I have rather enjoyed such as "Saints", "Sarah", "Rebecca" and "Rachel". These books are focused around the women by those names but his science fiction is not so women centered. His historical fiction seems to be well researched and doesn't make up strange things out of thin air like his science fiction. Some of his science fiction has some pretty interesting ideas though, I like the hall of talking heads.

Thank you for that link. I have a daughter who was injured 20 years and suffered a massive head trauma. She is living in our home and I have had many of the same thoughts, but I am not a good enough writer to express myself.
Thanks again, I need to get a fresh box of tissues.

Many thanks for that link. OSC just rose higher in my already high estimation.

Who reads that comic, anyway? It stopped being culturally relevant somewhere around 1986. The normally "Pravda" like Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel moved Doomsbury to the editorial page a couple of years ago. Even they recognize that it's a political screed with nothing even remotely funny about it.
Regards,
GtG
PS We get it only for the Packer News and the way that's been going lately, who knows...

We're ordering a slew of his Card's books for the library. The students here (religious campus) are into his science fiction.
I used to love the early Doonesbury, because he made fun of liberals as well as conservatives. Since the 80s, though, the strip became very annoying.

I would appreciate being added to the Orson Scott Card ping list, if you would be so kind.
I have tried to read his page about his son three times now and can not get through it. My son fought developmental delays from severe epilepsy for over two years until the disease finally killed him. Mr. Card expresses a father's love for a lost child far better than I could.

Only the aged hippies care what Trudeau thinks about anything.
Actually I could care less.
He's an old hippie and he don't know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new
He's an old hippie...his new life is just a bust
He ain't trying to change nobody
He's just trying real hard to adjust

(Card's a terrific fiction writer too; anyone who doesn't know his work should check it out.) Bears repeating. Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead are outstanding books.

I bet the troops tht are over there think it's bloody. That's not the attitude of troops I've spoken with. All but one of the troops I've spoken with had lost a comrade during their tour, but none of them considered our casualties to be high. Why? These guys read. Anyone with a passing knowledge of history knows that we lost more men at Antietam in a day then we've lost in Iraq. Some of them probably know that at Cold Harbor the attacks on 3 June 1864 cost the Union 3,000 men.
These guys know what they're doing, and even the ones who don't like the war's course have no doubt about how casualties compare to other conflicts.
