Newly elected Senator Jim Webb, D-Va., was so infuriated by a remark from President George W. Bush that the former Marine officer was tempted to punch the commander-in-chief.
The confrontation, disclosed in the influential Washington, D.C.-based publication The Hill, came shortly after the midterm elections at a private White House reception for newly elected lawmakers.
Webb, who defeated Republican Sen. George Allen in Virginia, ran a campaign critical of the administrations Iraq policy, and has a son, a Marine lance corporal, serving in Iraq.
At the reception, Bush asked Webb how his son was doing.
Webb answered that he really wanted to see his son brought back home, a source close to Webb reported.
The Associated Press quoted Webb as saying, "I told him I'd like to get them out of Iraq."
"I didnt ask you that, I asked how hes doing, Bush countered, according to the source.
Emily Heil wrote in The Hill: "Webb confessed that he was so angered by this that he was tempted to slug the commander-in-chief, reported the source, but of course didnt.
Webbs spokeswoman Kristian Denny Todd confirmed that "Jim did have a conversation with Bush at that dinner. Basically, he asked about Jims son; Jim expressed the fact that he wanted to have him home.
Todd wouldnt comment on Bushs response.
Damn like ole Jimmy need anger management counseloring if he want slug US President HELLO ROFL
He sounds like a classless impolite boor. He doesn't have to agree with the President, but a little common courtesy wouldn't hurt. Sheesh.
Another class act of a Dem shows his true colors.
It's always comforting to know that (yet another) one of the 535 members of our Congress, sent up there to make decisions for us, has "issues."
I thought Democrats were peace loving intellectuals who say war is not the answer and are against violence of any kind.
I thought a Democrat couldn't lower himself to such a level with Pres. Bush, since the Democrats are at such a high intellectual level, they would look down on the President and not sink to his level.
I guess I'm wrong.
I'd be thrilled, if Webb came out and whined that the Secret Service had visited him.
It would serve him right.
Sounds like a threat to me. The Secret Service need to keep an eye on this guy like they do with other deranged kooks.
"Jim Webb Threatens to 'Slug' President Bush"
No he didn't. Webb is a pomous ass who commented that a remark by the president made Webb want to slug him. That's not a threat.
Webb is a tactless lib jerk and NewsMax is a rag.
Apparently the SS is still too busy with movie stars.
Didn't they alrady find Ms. Jolie's movie camera?
You got point there show average American voter what they elect their Demos for LOL! hey it be more intesting than brit House of commons or Taiwan Parlaiment they get into fight there all the time
I'd be thrilled to see him on the Senate floor with a black eye proclaiming that W gave it to him.
Might have been one of the first times a senator "served" his constituants from behind bars. That would have been really classy for the DIMS.
I'm just disappointed he didn't actually do it.
That would have been a great way for the D's to start out the D's control of congress.
George Will's column today rips Webb for his rudeness. Sounds like this guy may be little unstable.
I was thinking the same thing. Of course, this is anecdotal, but all the liberals I personally know have always been short on the manners side. It's one of the things that really bothers me about them. They are so RUDE!! Didn't their mother ever teach them anything?
