A mother was arrested on suspicion of murdering her newborn daughter by microwaving the baby in an oven.
China Arnold, 26, was jailed Monday on a charge of aggravated murder, more than a year after she brought her dead month-old baby to a hospital. Bail was set Tuesday at $1 million.
"We have reason to believe, and we have some forensic evidence that is consistent with our belief, that a microwave oven was used in this death," said Ken Betz, director of the Montgomery County coroner's office.
He said the evidence included high-heat internal injuries and the absence of external burn marks on the baby, Paris Talley.
Arnold was arrested soon after the baby's death in August 2005, then was released while authorities investigated further. Betz said the case was difficult because "there is not a lot of scientific research and data on the effect of microwaves on human beings."
The death was ruled homicide by hyperthermia, or high body temperature. The absence of external burns ruled out an open flame, scalding water or a heating pad as the cause, Betz said.
Arnold's lawyer, Jon Paul Rion, said his client had nothing to do with her child's death and was stunned when investigators told her that a microwave might have been involved.
"China — as a mother and a person — was horrified that such an act could occur," Rion said.
The night before the baby was taken to the hospital, Arnold and the child's father went out for a short time and left Paris with a baby sitter, Rion said. The mother didn't sense anything out of the ordinary until the next morning, when the child was found unconscious, Rion said.
Arnold has three other children.
In 2000, a Virginia woman was sentenced to five years in prison for killing her month-old son in a microwave oven. Elizabeth Renee Otte claimed she had no memory of cramming her son in the microwave and turning on the appliance in 1999. Experts said that Otte suffered from epilepsy and that her seizures were followed by blackouts.
How can an omnibenevolent and omnipotent God allow a baby to be microwaved to death? What's the point of having a God if it can't stop something like that or it chooses not to? Holy sh!t.

Blackout following seizures involve the person 'sleeping', not walking about putting babies in microwaves.

You can`t kill a cockroach in a microwave. I should know, I was cooking a TV dinner in a microwave a month ago and after about 6 minutes I opened it up and a cockroach ran out, ewwwwww! This thing took 6 minutes of a microwave on full power and it didn`t even flinch. What should happen to her (or it) though is the Three day cutting torture like the Chinese use to do. Tie it to a pole and slowly cut away parts of her body over three days. That or .00000005 seconds listening to a Hillary Clinton speech, same thing.

Before jumping on the bandwagon against this mother, I wonder if the effects could be such that they were "delayed"? If the mom comes home and the baby is "sleeping" - but breathing fine, etc. could it still have been nuked by the babysitter? I imagine that the baby still would have been in terrible pain however, unless it was in a coma or something. Regardless, whoever did this will be set on High for eternity.

Whenever I come across someone with a first name like "China," I instinctively start putting together a list of bizarre things, signs of emotional instability, signs of cultural dysfunction, etc. are likely to come up in this person's life in the near future.
I've thought of some pretty f#%&ed-up things, but I gotta be honest with you . . . "Will someday put a baby in a microwave" has never been one of them.
Yet.
When I posted that thread yesterday, someone actually made a joke about sticking the ice ice baby in a microwave. Little did he know that it actually happened.
The coroner's statement puzzles me as well. Does he think a microwave oven will internally cook the tissue of a chicken, a rabbit and a trout but not the tissue of a human infant? Not that dumb people don't sit on juries, but every last one of them has used a microwave repeatedly so defense won't be able to throw sand in their eyes on this point.
Then there's this claim from Arnold's lawyer --
Speaking of smells, I think I smell the distinct odor of an insanity plea.

I think this mother(i use that term very loosely) needs to be burned at the stake inside and out!
