Count Me In The Guiliani Camp (Debbie Schlussel: He Has The Cojones TO Fight Islamofascism Alert)
Debbie Schlussel.com ^ | 08/15/2006 | Debbie Schlussel

Every day, I'm asked whom I'm supporting for President in 2008. I've looked over the potential candidates, and on the Republican side, I believe the best, by far, is Rudy Giuliani, who took the first step toward a run, yesterday, with an exploratory committee.

(On the Democratic side, the best guy who's been talked about as a Presidential contender is Senator Evan Bayh from Indiana, who truly understands the Islamic threat and is a more moderate Democrat--which is why he'll never get the nomination.)

Yes, I'm pro-life and against gay rights, where Giuliani shares neither of my views on these issues. But, to me, the terrorism issue is far more important, #1 on the list. Right now, we have a President who is pro-life, against gay rights, and pretends to be the "Counterterrorism Prez." But, actually, he's done nothing substantive on any of these issues.

Rudy Giuliani: Then-NYC Mayor Had Guts to Stop Yasser Arafat's Stateside Escapades

So, I'll take the guy who I know will have the guts to do what Bush does not. I believe Giuliani is that man. He's proven that time and again, whether it was when he told terror-supporting Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal to take his $10 million and shove it (right after 9/11) or when he severely restricted Yasser Arafat's travel in New York (kicking him out of a concert).

A man who will do those things vs. Bush PC on Islam is the man we need to run this country. He's probably also the man who can handle the illegal alien problem and actually see to it that something is done about it. Not sure on his position on guest workers, but we'll soon enough find out.

It will be a difficult matter for a pro-choice, pro-gay rights candidate (and, again, I oppose Giuliani on these issues) to get the GOP nomination. We'll see.

So for those who want to know who I'm supporting for Prez, I say, "Viva Rudy." America's Mayor has what it takes to be America's President.

We need a President with the cojones to take on Islamofascism. Like Debbie Schlussel, I don't buy into Rudy Guiliani's pro-choice and pro-gay views. But he does understand what is at stake with the enemy we face. For me, that's #1. If we don't win the War On Terror, nothing else will matter. Conservatives should see Hillary isn't up to the job. Evan Bayh is the one Democrat who might fit that bill, which is why the Democrats will never nominate him. Let's hear it for the heroic Mayor Of New York!

I think Rudy will pull something like this, he will say he is personally Pro-choice, for gun control, and that he is not anti-gay, but he'll "pledge" not to change the status quo that exists now, leaving things up to the states, etc...

"I don't buy into Rudy Guiliani's pro-choice and pro-gay views."

Nor I. However, he is a strict constructionist and if he is a true "states rights" guy as he appears, these issues will not mean much. That McVain is being foisted on us scares the heck out of me. If he squeeks through the primary and is the nominee, the MSM will take him out...

The only issue that matters to me is Islam Terrorism. Rudy will fight it...so would Newt, so would Mike Pence, so would Steele....

This is where Giuliani's appeal falls apart. Pushing a candidate like this for his approach to the so-called "war on terror" (whatever the hell that may be) at the expense of all other issues is a huge mistake. The GOP barely maintained control of the White House in 2004 (against a terrible candidate, BTW), and it will be that much more difficult to convince voters in 2008 that this "war on terror" is even one of the top five issues anymore.

The biggest problem a candidate like Giuliani would face in 2008 is getting support from those 90% of the voters who don't see the "war on terror" as a key issue anymore.

Hillary would have the support of the media in her fight.
That makes her the strongest candidate.

... if you don't care about social issues.

Yes, I liked the way Rudy stood up to America's adversaries. Can you imagine a Democrat doing that? I can't. Oh I know he is a social liberal and in a normal time, I agree, give him a pass. But we don't live in an ordinary time.

I'll give up on the GOP before I vote for a pro-abortion candidate because there is NO reason we can't find someone that is tough on terrorism, pro-life and for a bonus fiscally conservative.

Larry King asked him after the London bomb plot was foiled about how you stop people if these people have little concern for their own lives, and Rudy could not the use the word 'kill' in describing how to deal with them.

We need another Truman, who will end the War on Terror with just a few well placed bombs.

That is all it would take.

We will be fighting radical Islam for the rest of our lives, regardless of how Iraq ultimately pans out. The fact of the matter is Al Qaeda has vowed to launch more devastating attacks upon America. We need a President who will take them out first, not react after its too late.

. . . when he told terror-supporting Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal to take his $10 million and shove it (right after 9/11) . . .

It doesn't take much courage to turn down a $10 million contribution when your city is about to get tens of billions of dollars in Federal assisstance in the aftermath of 9/11.

He's probably also the man who can handle the illegal alien problem and actually see to it that something is done about it.

This is where the author exposes herself as a fraud. There is absolutely no evidence that Rudy Giuliani would do such a thing. In fact, his track record indicates that he would go out of his way to perpetuate the problem.

Aside from the fact that Hillry will accuse Rudy of doing nothing for all these years while she has the votes to demonstrate just how serious she has been on the WOT.

Hillry will even promote her voting on the House Border Fence Bill, even though when the House passed it she accused the Republican House of making Jesus illegal if they could.

Oh and wait until the feminists get through with how Rudy treated his women, and how Hillry represents the strength of a Biblical woman standing by her less than perfect man.

There may be such a candidate. I'm open to being persuaded. But if someone has a good quality, he shouldn't be disqualified from the nomination because we don't agree with him 100% on every issue. No such human being exists. He has plenty of time to make the case for his own candidacy.

OBVIOUSLY, the Rudy Giuliani pep club is out today, because there have been at least 4 articles touting his name. Quite frankly IMHO a man who is not a Christian, walking with the Lord, does not deserve my vote. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

Rudy Giuliani becomes very acceptable if we can regain our conservative majority in the house and senate. There are a huge number of things I don't like about him, but his willingness to stand in the face of terrorism makes up for a lot.

The Drive Bys/MSM will saddle ANY Republican with baggage. Either fight it or get used to it. If you're looking for a squeaky clean Republican candidate, he won't stay that way for very long. Count on it.
