PRAGUE, November 9, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Russian media today are predicting a chill in U.S.-Russia ties following the results of the November 7 U.S. elections, which appeared to hand both chambers of Congress to the opposition Democrats and have led to the surprise resignation of U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Many Russian newspapers predict the changes to the U.S. Congress will mean increased criticism of Russia's human rights standards, and a deterioration in cooperation on foreign-policy issues like Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. RFE/RL correspondent Claire Bigg spoke to Aleksandr Golts, a political and defense expert for the Moscow-based "Yezhednevny zhurnal."

No problem. Pelosi has vowed to return "civility" to Washington. I'm SURE that will extend to our international friends, as well....
Odd, I thought the World was just dying for the Dems to take over. John Kerry said so.
Heck, I have a frosty relationship with the Democrats and I'm an American!
WHAT????????? Putin's fellow communist/socialists win, and HE IS ANGRY??? GMAFB.
You would think the Commies would be happy that OUR COMMIES are in power....birds of a feather.
But Russia, which opposed both the 2003 invasion of Iraq in which Rumsfeld played a key role and NATO membership for former Soviet states, was more reserved in calling for continued good ties in the military sphere.
"I can only regret that Defense Secretary Rumsfeld has resigned," news agencies quoted Defence Minister Anatoly Hrytsenko as saying on a trip to central Ukraine.
"We enjoyed good relations. He always wished Ukraine well, he liked Ukraine. All our meetings, however formal or informal, started with the same question -- how can we help Ukraine?"
the San Francisco Demonicrats are the leaders of the Socialist Vanguard, not the ne'er do well Russian Communists! ...and if you disagree, you will get a pick axe in the brain like Trotsky did!
recall how The Perfumed Prince Wesley Clark tried to start a war with the Russians in Kosovo. IIRC the Demonicrats (e.g.. Kerry) were also at the forefront of sticking it to the Russians any way they could back in the 1990's when Russia had just thrown off the Soviet yoke.
That's surprising. The Dems were VERY, VERY accomidating to the old Soviet Union. Why do they think that would that change?
Russian talking heads are correct here. The Democrats have to make sure "that Kosovo blemish" is put to bed well before the 2008 presidential cycle, or several of the Clintonites vying for office will look the terrorist stooge *to the mainstream US public" on the history there *for the first time*.
Russia has pretty valid arguments in opposing Kosovo indipendence, and can not agree to such. Expect China, Turkey and Arab OPEC countries to also block Kosovo indpendence if the Democrats force a 'cut and run' from Iraq, leaving Kurdish and Shia seperatists a free hand to transform the region, destabilising the Arab Gulf.
Should be an interesting two years as the Democrats try to avoid reality for as long a possible.
You don't miss the water until the well runs dry....
Now if Russia would just vote back in their own version of the Dem'crats, the Soviet Communist cadre, relations between Moscow and Capitol Hill would thaw out immediately.
The Dem'crats and the Soviet Communists have this special understanding, doncha see.
Russian policymakers offered a more muted, but no less divisive, take on the electoral results. Speaking to a Russian radio station, Konstantin Kosachev, the head of the international affairs committee in the lower house of the Russian parliament (the Duma), speculated that a victory for the Democrats might be the key to a more balanced foreign policy. For Russia, he noted, "conflicts between the White House and Congress are, in some ways, more comfortable than their 'complete and universal' brotherhood."
Especially with Ted Kennedy.
I guess I didn't realie that there was ANY cooperation on those matters...
You'd think they'd be happy now that communists control our Congress.
I don't think so. The Democrats will stop SDI, force the US to abide by unfair treaties, and not criticize Iran or North Korea. The only thing the Russians have to worry about is Human Rights, and that is only if we don't have other pressing issues to worry about (IE Iraq). Same for China.
