Bush to make statement with his cabinet in Rose Garden at 11:35 AM...
Here is on way to look at this whole thing -- let's be glad that the people got fed up with the Republicans in 2006, rather than 2 years from now. This way, maybe everybody will see the true colors of the democrats and vote republican in the presidential election.
Maybe Charlie Rangel will finally get his draft. :-)

My point is, we've made the parts greater than the whole. The Democrats did that, and over time, they became the monstrosity they are today.
Everyone should be free to have a debate in this forum. Displeasure and disillusionment with the current administration is not an executable offense. We need to stop taking our disagreement personally here. We all voted Republican. I submit that we lost the moderate swing votes because our campaigns began to blur with moderate Democrats, which in turn made the Iraqi War the only issue that starkly separated us from the Democrats. We couldn't run on anything because we had nothing to differentiate ourselves. Peter Roskam got the last minute boost in my district because he hammered home the issue of illegal immigration - a solid stance that gave the local electorate something to think about besides the war, corruption, what have you. And he won despite most projections that he would lose.
I just need to take a break, go soak my head, and start pondering what we need to do in order to salvage 2008...

The single-issue voter left the GOP. Their pet issue wasn't addressed to their satisfaction, and so they went public with their laments. This only works productively in a two-prong squeeze play. How it played out, election wise, was squeezing the President and Admin -- not the opposition.
The Democrats used this ploy between their far-left and "faux" conservative base -- it worked for them. But the "leadership" in the Dem party was clear on it and did a masterful job of herding "the cats". Our side just went on for attacking the President, then supporting him, then saying they were holding their nose. Then calling themselves the "real conservatives" as tho they had the office of President.
There's plenty of room to disagree with Republican policy; but just make sure your enemies aren't using the effective strategy of your own laments to "show" off how disenfranchised the Republican base is. We tried that -- it worked. Dem's played it back at us. The "single issue" voter went for purism in public view, and it threw a good game off its mark.

Such hyperbole! Seems to me the American electorate stood shoulder to shoulder with the troops in both 2002 and 2004, the latter presidential election being a lot more important than 2006.
Yes, we are all disappointed. And, yes, we need to vent.
But further divisiveness is not going to make the troops safer, today or tomorrow. The election is over.
Question is, how many cities will it cost us in the meantime?
I'd love to see Heath Schuler have to make that same choice.

These are crucial days... and he should understand the dangers of falling into the trap of the Left (being loved by them) and ignoring the base...or whatever I am :)... some one told me "I was not the base!."

Speaking of that when will the investigations start into the Treasonous acts of Ted Kennedy...
Kennedy was working with the Soviets to undermine Reagan's policies and influence the 1984 election. All it takes is investigating the letter that Yuri Andropov got from Kennedy aides... hmmm
You know more to the point if that is proven. What is to say that someone in the Dem leadership using the same playbook hasn't coordinated with Iran directly to interfere and influence the Irai violence in order to undermine Bush's polices and incluence the 2006 and 2008 elections... hmmm... This is definatly worth at least a book...

Yep... I guess I should be glad the fit-pitchers did their sturm und drang in an off-year so that by '08 we can all remember that the opposition is not the libertarians or the evangelicals or the neo-cons or the paleo-cons or any other form of conservatism.
