A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Putting things wildly in perspective

by JohnHuang2

Here's a short list of things which haven't magically changed, even after a rat takeover of Congress:

-- Bush is still President of the United States, and Jon Carry isn't.
-- Bush is still Commander-in-Chief.

-- Bush still has two more years as President and Commander-in-Chief.
-- Bush still has the veto pen. That veto pen means the Nancy Pelosi/Charlie Rangel/Henry Waxman/Ted Kennedy/trial lawyer/ environutter/gun-grabbing/tax-hiking agenda has zero chance of becoming law.

-- The war against Islamofacists is still on.
-- Unless Saddam's death sentence gets overturned by the 9th Circuit, the 'GOD-IS-GREAT!' screaming secular Baathist is still going to hang.
-- The Democrat Party is still a patchwork of special interest groups. These groups don't agree on much. The irony is that, rather than civil war erupting in the GOP, it's more likely to happen within the Democrat Party, since nothing will get done, which means lots of internal strife and lots of finger-pointing. The stuff these groups will be pushing for is very unpopular, which is why, before the elections, they hid Pelosi in a cave in Tora Bora.

-- The Democrat Party is still a collection of losers who haven't got a clue yet. The Dems, after a string of losses -- in 2000, again in 2002, again in 2004 -- were bound to win one. Two-term Presidents don't win both midterm elections -- just doesn't happen. And you can bet that these Dems, feeling emboldened, will spend the next two years hard at work getting the GOP back in shape for a big comeback in '08.
The 2006 midterm election was a battle, just one battle, not the war itself. The big one will be '08. We'll win that one.

Dem's derailed...November, 2008!!!!

Anyway, that's...
My two cents

Hi Lori. Thanks for your kudos. I was so despondent yesterday....but John's words really made me feel better

BTW...when I saw the picture of you Dave that Lori made of the Traveling Wall... I AM SO EXCITED...it comes to our small town in July in conjunction with Honda Homecoming (where about 5,000 Honda motorcycle bikers will descend upon us for 4 days.) American Honda first started out here and employs around 15,000 people here. Anyway, your picture really fired me up! Plus I will just be installed as our Rotary Club president AND we are going to be major involved in helping out!

I like your excitement.

We've got a Veteran's Day Parade downtown on Saturday morning followed by a fantastic program at a different venue in the afternoon. Last year's program was outstanding, so I'm looking forward to this one.

Then on Sunday, our church will be honoring Vets during both morning worship services.

Absolutely superb job, dutchess!! (((((((((((((dutchess)))))))))))))) Overwhelming kudos to you, my friend. Let the Dems enjoy their dead-cat-bounce. We're coming back stronger than ever in '08. If you do the math, 10 or 11 districts -- DeLay's and Mark Foley's being prime examples -- are automatically back in the GOP column in two years. Which means we only need to pick up a handful of other Dem seats to win back Congress. Very doable. Especially if the top of the '08 Democrat ticket is weak, as it will be. The Donks are unlikely to enjoy two back-to-back elections without losing a single House incumbent (or Senate incumbent, for that matter.) That's just not going to happen. Don't forget that the BIG PRIZE is '08, not '06.

Thanks again, dutchess and thanks, y'all, for dropping by! (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((group hug))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

One Problem; Two Views

READ: Romans 13:1-7

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. —Romans 13:1

Jamaicans were recently concerned  that their country’s murder rate was nearing an all-time high. Debate was lively as good citizens sought solutions.

Typical of two common approaches came in letters to the editor of one Jamaican newspaper. One writer said, “Unless our scholars, . . . policymakers and political representatives seriously seek answers, the future of our nation is dire.” Another observed, “It is time we address the heart of the problem—that the people of Jamaica go . . . not to the Minister of National Security but to God Himself.”

One problem, two views: The totally secular proposal, which leans on the wisdom of man alone; and the divine approach, which depends on God and those who love Him.

We need both: God-ordained government to care for the people (Rom. 13:1-7), and people who have a proper view of God and His guidelines for life (Prov. 14:33).

No matter where we live, we must pray for those in charge, asking God to provide direction. Then we must also work and pray that individuals—one by one—see their need for Jesus and their dependence on the Lord.

By combining the two views, we can make a difference. Dave Branon

It’s always easy to complain
And say that government’s unfair,
But God’s Word says we should give thanks
And lift our leaders up in prayer.  —Hess

Through prayer, the public business of the nation can become the private business of the Christian.

“It is time we address the heart of the problem—that the people of The United States go . . . not to the "elected or appointed" for fixing our problems, but to God Himself.”

Perfect timing for this lesson.

Prayers for President Bush and our great nation. And for all of us(me) to be patient with His plan. In God We Trust.

Hi Rus...thanks for devotional.. been sparse around FR the past couple weeks.. just catching up a bit before I leave & want to express my disappointment in your loss.. We have turned away so many good men & women in favor of scoundrels it seems.

Well, I am glad God is in charge of my soul... it seems Satan is alive & well on planet earth, as the popular book states.

Hugs hon!
