As well he shouldn't. He's a couple points ahead and there were near 200,000 absentee ballots issued in MD. Calling the winners for MD Senator and Govenor just after 9pm was wwwwwaaaaayyyyyy premature.

One potential problem with calling this race early, projections are based in part on historic performance of past districts. If Steele were to pull in a higher percentage of a traditionaly Democratic demographic it would throw off the projections. And guess what, Steele is likley to do just that with African-Americans. Not saying he'll win, but there is reason to be dubious of early pojections here.
