They've won the House and may win the Senate. They kicked our asses. What should they do - fold their arms and cry? They won - big time. We lost, big time. No need to whitewash or spin it. The sun will still rise tomorrow. We had a good run and got some things done and failed in others. The American public is polarized on both ends and squishy in the middle. Which way that squishy middle goes every 2, 4, and 6 years makes all the difference. This time they tired of hearing of war, corruption and perversion. Fair or not, this is what they heard and they punished those they held responsible.

To a certain extent I agree. While this is pretty normal for the 6th year of a presidency, the GOP has strayed way off message over the last 12 years. While I'm not sure corruption was the top concern, there's no doubt that the House majority was lost due to it. Shame on the GOP for that.

People don't seem to understand what is going on in Pennsylvania. Pa. is loaded with old people. Bitter, miserable old people that sit for hours on end and watch CNN. They are resentful of the money being spent in Iraq because they feel that they are the ones entitled to it.

Spot on to a large part (my Dad is one of those people, was a Reagan Republican, now has an obsessive and all consuming hatred of of Bush.)

It's not purely a financial thing though. There's something about Bush that really rubs old people in PA the wrong way, in a major, major way, and they really have an intense dislike of the Iraq War, more out of latent isolationism than the money involved not going to themselves.

Future of the party will that hard line immigration hurt the republicans. Plus Arnold wins, in CA, that means all republicans will be asked to become a moderate type of republican. Armey was already blasting conservatives christians.

How does that go? "One shall be taken, and the other left".

RINOs are NOT moderates. They are an entity unto themselves with their own agenda. Moderates have no agenda and that is why they can be easily swayed left or right.

You have posted some of the best common sense on here tonite.

We live in a democratic republic folks, and the people have given control to the other party. They want some offsetting of the president, and I would be willing to bet it wasn't about immigration, or gas prices, or anything else like that. It's been about what has been dominating everything they have seen since 2003. It's ALL ABOUT IRAQ. I don't agree with them, and we could complain about Bush not doing this, or the media doing a lot of that, but the fact is that we have historically been an isolationist country. We find it hard to sustain an internationalist attitude for very long.

Bush is smart enough to know this. The majority of the troops will have to be home in 12 months. The problem for the Democrats is two-fold: who will you run in 08, and what will be your issues?

The economy is good, and both parties get the raspberry from the public on things like immigration and such...

Meanwhile, the image of the conservative has been of inflexible and judgmental people. That's why Foley, Weldon, the adulterous preachers, etc. hits a note with the INDEPENDENTS. The Dems turned out...but the close races were lost because the Indies went against us.

I know this isn't probably the right time to say this, but it's why we need to take a second look at Rudy in 08...

I don't think real conservatives stay home or vote for Democrats.

Well, logically, they must have done one of the above, or we would have won.

BTW, name won race where the Democrat was more conservative than the Republican.

Was more conservative, or ran as more conservative? How about NC-11?

I don't mean the elections come out as planned, but rather the policies... just look at the growth in the size and power of government over the past 6 years.

No....you could say that America is "blind as a bat". Whay beat up on conservatives? Forums are to exchange ideas. If you don't agree....that is fine. Just don't beat up on this proud conservative.

Fact is, we haven't been conservative. Newt really differentiated his ideas from the Democrat house. We haven't done that and are becoming more like the rats!

All Freepers:

I read an excellent post by Freeper “Common Tator” on another thread a while back. This is an excerpt.Read it and think about it: "This is truly an election between the Media and the Republican party. Never in my lifetime have I seen a time when the media makes no effort to hide its bias. The media constantly presents the Democratic talking points as fact. They have never done that before. They no longer make an effort to attribute their points.. They state them as fact. It is an attempt to change the direction of the nation. They understand that the Democrats failed at defeating Bush and the Republican party. So the media has taken on that task. And if they win no politician will dare cross the media again. Neither parties candidates will dare cross the media. It will be seen as the path to sure defeat. But if the Republicans win this election the opposite will be apparent to every candidate. The media will have shown that it can neither elect or defeat a candidate. Only the voters can do that. Both parties will realize that they are to the left of their voters. And since it will be apparent that the voters are in control both parties will move to the right. Democrats will see total opposition to Republicans as a losing strategy. It may please the media... but not the voters. So they will move a bit to the right and cooperate. The filibusters will decrease. Cooperation will increase. The entire government will move to the right. But if the media wins, then the voters of both parties lose... Every politician ... Republican and Democrat will try to please the media by moving left. No election in my lifetime has been this important. We must defeat the media or they will rule this nation for at least the next generation."
