Another outbreak of Democrat anti-troop hatred
Michelle Malkin ^ | November 06, 2006 | Michelle Malkin

I wrote last week that we'd see more outbreaks of anti-military vandalism leading up to Election Day.

In upstate New York on Halloween eve, "(expletive) Bush" and a depiction of a penis were scrawled on the 20-by-40-foot flag and similar pictures in the same shade of green were painted on the American Legion Mohawk Post.

Now there's this despicable act in Boise, Idaho reportedly committed by the sons of a state Democrat legislator:

Police arrested 24-year old Michael Burkett of Boise early Sunday morning after officers with Capitol Mall Security reported spotting him vandalizing two flag polls on the grounds of the Idaho Statehouse.

The flags are memorials to soldiers who lost their lives in the war on terror.

"It's certainly upsetting, not just to officers but for any citizen of this county who knows somebody who lost their lives in Iraq or Afghanistan," Lt. Ron Winegar said of the ongoing investigation.

Burkett was charged with resisting arrest and Malicious Injury to Property.

He and his 22-year-old brother, Tom Burkett, also charged with the vandalism, are the sons of state Sen. Michael Burkett (D) of Idaho's 19th district.

And on college campuses across the country. Remember:

Flashback - An attack on the ROTC at UNC Chapel Hill:

Flashback - Anti-military vandalism at the University of Minnesota:

Flashback - And can't forget Santa Cruz.

Flashback - More attacks on military recruiters.

Another anti-military attack flashback: Indianapolis military memorial defaced with "peace" graffiti and anti-Bush profanities.

It is not a long journey between these people and Dick Durbin and John Kerry and Company.

Who do you want in charge in Washington? Them or us?

***

Speaking of unhinged sons of Democrat pols, remember the Milwaukee tire-slashers from the 2004 campaign?

" Police say Michael Burkett also resisted and obstructed officers."

"For someone to desecrate a flag, I mean that's not only is it dishonorable, it's downright ignorant," said Tom Titus, whose son Brandon was killed in Iraq two years ago.

The flagpole with Brandon's name on it was bent so badly that police say the flag was laying on the ground.

"It hurts knowing that a flag was taken down with my son's name on it. And I hurt for the other families whose flags were desecrated," Titus said.

The decorated Vietnam vet says he's no stranger to this kind of vandalism.

In fact Titus says someone ripped up a flag from a pole in his front yard.

The flag was hand delivered to him by U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo's office the same week his son died.

The courts have ruled (wrongly) that flag desecration is protected under the 1st Amendment right of free speech.

This may change in time and legislation protecting the flag has been put forth and is opposed by the left as infringing on their constitutional right of dissent guaranteed by the symbol that protects their rights. This is irony bordering on insanity.

The flag and property was not theirs to desecrate. The symbolism of their actions vandalized valued property of others and the courts should hold them responsible for property damage and determine its value accordingly. The flag represented the appreciation of the nation to the family for the loss of life, forever irreplaceable. Severe damage awards would be appropriate and just.

Yeah - Why isn't flag burning a hate crime? Is it not an act designed to invoke anger and hurt in those with who you disagree?

Kerry's offense was saying openly what many Democrats think privately: our military is a bunch of war-mongering criminals that deserves to be put out of its misery. That's what the election comes down to today: do you really want people with contempt for those who put their lives on the line for our country to run it? I'd hate to think we'd do that to our troops.

You're very welcome, George 76.

It was a pleasure just being there right across the street from the 2003 OSCARS supporting our Troops and their Freedom Mission, terrorist threat or no terrorist threat.

This outstanding AP Article was published all over the country the next day, including on the Front Page of the Washington Times.

Freepers DO indeed make a difference out there..?

and the Burkett sons should get five years cleaning latrines at a Marine basic training facility.

I agree. Make them Permanent Latrine Orderlies.
