In a stunning and historic trip under the utmost secrecy, a delegation of families of fallen U.S. troops have traveled to Iraq to counter critics of the war effort, just days before the Nov. 7 midterm elections.
The delegation of Gold Star Families agreed to provide the Sacramento Union with an exclusive account of their trip to Iraq based on the assurance that news of their mission would not be published until they had safely left Amman, Jordan.
So secret is their trip that even members of the Bush Administration were kept in the dark about their planned activities.
Theyve come to Iraq from cities throughout America as part of a 12-person delegation in a history-making effort no other coordinated group of Gold Star Families has ever traveled to Iraq, and they come with a message that is sure to ignite a firestorm of debate.
The American people are shown a skewed picture of the situation in Iraq day after day by the international news media. We felt it was time to allow the families of U.S. troops who died in Iraq to come see the progress being made in Iraq and report it back to the American , said Melanie Morgan, Chairman of Move America Forward.
Move America Forward, a Sacramento-based pro-troop non-profit organization is organizing the 10-day journey to Iraq. The group previously led a contingent of radio talk show hosts to Iraq in July 2005.
To demonstrate their contention that things are better in Iraq than what has been portrayed in many news accounts, the delegation is intentionally traveling to Iraqi provinces that have largely been free of the violence that has erupted in Baghdad and the surrounding Sunni triangle.

Think CBS, NBC, CNN, and NPR will cover this in detail, in special hours-long presentations?

From the article.
The left-leaning public relations monitoring group, PR Watch, questioned Move America Forwards non-partisan status by noting that, MAFs inner circle is remarkable for its extensive conservative connections.
In a news story published in December 2005, the Wall Street Journal pointed out that many liberals, question how the group has maintained its status as a tax-exempt nonprofit organization
I suppose one must got to all the liberal leaning, tax exempt groups to find shining examples of how to assemble a "diverse" inner circle. And yes, I too wonder how these liberal non-profits maintain their tax exempt status.

Jim- the reason we're not hearing more good news from Iraq is because according to a general over there, anytime there are good reports in cities, the terrorists zero in on those cities and target them for violence, hoping to demoralize the troops & terrorize the civilians- I'd always wondered why we weren't seeing more good news too- but this makes sense.

Outstanding. We need to bump this up so high and loud that the "mainstream" (sic) media will have no opportunity to ignore it.

AFP is reporting that, due to security precautions for the delivery of Saddam's verdict in a few hours, Baghdad is under curfew - and the airport is closed - under further notice.

No problem.
Sometimes I wonder what is wrong in America, something like this shouldn't even be necessary. If these liberal clowns had been around in the 40's, they'd be tarred and feathered.

Horrible. I am very saddened (almost like Tom Dasch-hole!) to say I have expected this from the beginning - knowing how absolutely ruthless and depraved those savages are, and that they cannot allow a peaceful and successful Iraq to emerge, and knowing that they do monitor our media, I have long feared that any positive stories on school openings, peaceful towns, etc. would just be an excuse for the savages to zero in on those places and turn them into just more Islamo-fascist hellholes. That's all these psychotic barbarians can do, they kill and destroy until they are the only ones left standing, and anyone else alive is hiding and groveling to their evil Mullahs and Sheikhs. That's why we have to kill them first!

AFP is reporting that, due to security precautions for the delivery of Saddam's verdict in a few hours, Baghdad is under curfew - and the airport is closed - under further notice. Wonder if the delegation got in? We knew Baghdad was going on clampdown for a few days yesterday and that they were going to shut the airport tomorrow. Didn't hear whether it was closed today or not.
I haven't seen security this high here since the January 2005 elections.
