Introducing the lead story on Tuesday's World News about John Kerry's seeming insult of troops in Iraq -- or at the very least that Bush is stupid -- ABC anchor Charles Gibson characterized it as merely an idle political remark as he fretted the attention it got from alternative media outlets and how that crowded out other issues: What happened today is an object lesson in how in this day and age, an idle political remark gets seized upon, becomes fodder for the talk shows, the blogs, and the politicians, and suddenly obscures discussion of all other issues. Following the story by Jake Tapper, which included shots of NewsBusters (see NewsBusters item with video and screen capture), Gibson pressed George Stephanopoulos about presumed White House duplicity: "George, does anyone at the White House really think that Senator Kerry was in some way denigrating the intelligence of American troops?" Stephanopoulos assured him: "Not exactly, but they don't think it's their job to give John Kerry the benefit of the doubt.

Olbermann: "When you consider that the question about this at the briefing this morning was asked by Bret Baier of Fox News to Tony Snow, Fox News alumni, and that the President rewrote a section of his stump speech at the eleventh hour in Georgia to include those comments about Senator Kerry, is there any question that the White House is not just enjoying a windfall here, but actually manufacturing a windfall?"
Dana Milbank, Washington Post: "Well, of course it's manufactured. It's sort of this made-for-Fox-News Halloween thriller. It only runs in even years, but Karl Rove casts some spell, John Kerry turns into the Grim Reaper, and the Democrats all look as if they've seen a ghost."
That is shocking. And shows the delusion of the average Democrat's mind.
Anyone who thinks sitting it out this election is a better alternative is delusional.
Exactly. Defenders are lined up, assuring us it's just a spark...expecting us to ignore the pile of fuel the spark hit. Kerry's problem is that it's just too easy to believe he would say that, and mean it.
He seems to have led a sheltered political life, too...had he called a press conference two hours later and genuinely apologized, it would be yesterday's news. Instead, the apology that will inevitably be offered will appear forced and insincere.
As for Charlie Gibson...does he wonder why "journalists" are held in such low regard? I can't, in my wildest dreams, imagine him asking "Democrats don't really think that Trent Lott meant that..." or "Does Rush Limbaugh have a point, maybe?"
I love to hear total desperation from the LEFT.
Uh, Charley, it was a denigrating, idle political remark designed to poison the minds of his audience at Pasadena City College. It was denigrating to our brave troops in Iraq and a pompous, condescending Kerry refuses to acknowledge that he made a mistake.
Look close at John Kerry in his response to this issue. If the democrats seize power in DC next week, he will be worse.......
Except it's not really...the Furies of Hell are reserved for right-wingers.
How apropos that he should show up when we are speaking of stupid people in the military.

Good one.
The president was great last night detailing how the Democrats are against the Patriot Act, the terrorist surveillance act, etc.
He got the crowd chanting "No" and was absolutely on fire.
Glad Gibson got someone more objective than him like Steponallofus!! What Dean still hiding in the secret Bunker with Red Reid and Peloser??
Pray for W and Our Troops
We're (meaning the republican base and outraged americans in general) are going to have to work to keep this in the news. The news services look like they are trying to make it a non-issue.
Definitely need to keep it perculating on talk radio and on the net today, IMHO
True.. the one on the left likes little boys.. not big ones..
And we can be sure to send news articles about Kerry or about the media's cover for Kerry to our e-mail friends who will in turn send it to their friends, etc.
We can keep this alive and should keep this alive.
Since not one single Democrat has come out in two days to condemn Kerry, I have to assume that his remarks accurately represent their mindset.
Serve us a buffet of your twisted liberal, MSM spin, Mr Gibson. We will wash it down and then out of our systems, with oceans of the sweet beverage of truth, provided via the wonderfully refreshing alternative media, of which you speak through clenched teeth with spittle spraying.
Americans were never stupid, Mr Gibson,as those of your and Kerry's ilk presumed, merely held in ignorance by the MSM we depended upon for enlightenment.
The MSM is only good for comic relief these days,Mr Gibson, so stop taking your selves seriously! Nobody else does.
That's the part we need to push, IMHO...where are the dems condemning his slandering of the military and those who don't take college degrees?
It's Rove's fault!!!
Rove you magnificent bastart!
