Washington Senator John Kerry issued the following statement in response to White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, assorted right wing nut-jobs, and right wing talk show hosts desperately distorting Kerrys comments about President Bush to divert attention from their disastrous record:
If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. Im sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.
Im not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Foxs Parkinsons disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq. It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.
The people who owe our troops an apology are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney who misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it. These Republicans are afraid to debate veterans who live and breathe the concerns of our troops, not the empty slogans of an Administration that sent our brave troops to war without body armor.
Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because theyre afraid to debate real men. And this time it wont work because were going to stay in their face with the truth and deny them even a sliver of light for their distortions. No Democrat will be bullied by an administration that has a cut and run policy in Afghanistan and a stand still and lose strategy in Iraq.
I'm watching it and ROFL .. He just screwed the Dems
Is he really going to say this in front of a camera? I can't believe him.
Excellent letter! Well done, penelopesire.
Well I just called both Biden and Carper's office.
Go with me here, if you felt my visceral reaction in what I posted, trust that my voice aptly portrayed my anger when the staff took my call.
I also reminded Carper that he is running for re-election and did he need his co-Senator out there causing us voters so much hurt by his mean statements.
and yes I reminded that it was us idiot voters who supplied the soldiers that defend us, indeed the entire planet.
Both offices took my name and phone number, which I gave proudly. Carper's guy said he is sure that Senator Carper is not happy about Kerry's statements. We shall see. I told him I expected Carper at a press conference immediately denouncing Kerry's words.
Yes indeed and whoever was on the other end of that line could not argue back.
First time I ever did this folks. Go on and do it. THIS is important enough. Time for this taken-for-granted Middle Class to riot over Cartoon Kerry.
Rush is saying the Kerry camp is now trying to say this was a "joke".
This limp D**K Mother****** couldn't snap a salute to save his life. I have seen Recruits salute better that this @$$
Fox doesn't even have the quote up on the screen correctly!
Arghhh......
Your joking right? Did you not hear his own words?
Someone might think you are a DU-troll?
That excuse won't fly
Calling out military stupid is not funny
They played the video of what he said first.
Does this IDIOT realize that Bill Clinton never served?
Does this IDIOT realize that FDR never served?
Does this IDIOT realize Abe Lincoln never served in the US Armed Forces either (yes, he did serve in a militia)?
His arguments that because some in this administration didn't serve in a war somehow makes war decisions by them as not valid is a complete joke. What an a-hole this guy is.
And the light shone in the darkness, and the darkness received it not.
Let your light shine!
I just saw a Fox video and after John's words the crowd laughs. Kerry gives a sly little grin. It's as clear as a bell what he intended by the laughter and his smile.
He's trying to spin it as "if you don't get an education, then people will pull the wool over your eyes and the nation will end up in war."
Preposterous.
The laughter and the grin were right out of the Vietnam era, and this slime was bad-mouthing our troops. He's not worth one molecule of their blood.
Kerry digs a deeper hole for himself! As I have said many times, the dems can't help but overplay their hand.
Kerry's gaffe is a great line to associate with the dems going into election 2006.
Perhaps with the "debate" line...since in her campaign a "real man" refuses to debate...a woman.
Good job. Well done. Now share your experience with others, encourage them to do the same and, regardless of Carper's subsequent actions (which will be none), vote against Carper on November 7.
absolutely - EXCEPT - don't bother wasting breath contacting the enemy camps - let's let them find out how outraged we are by hearing it on the media outlets.
Whoa! JUST now - his video with the now infamous quote was on FOX! He's now trying to spin it that he wasn't talking about the troops being stuck in Iraq - but Bush.
That won't fly. He included it in a statement about the troops = trying to spin it otherwise makes it worse, hee hee
and now they're discussing the statement - the libs trying to spin him out of it are pathetic - waHOO! it's hit the media
