A Mid-Sunday afternoon call comes to Roger & Team Hedgecock. A friend embedded in the district office of Congressman Duncan Hunter. Heads up for a news conference on Monday October 30th at 11am at the Broadway Pier. Duncan will announce for higher office. Hell seek a job that becomes vacant in 2008 at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Duncan will apparently announce the formation of an exploratory committee, which will allow him to begin raising funds for a PA Avenue campaign. Formation of such a committee does not always result in an actual candidacy A couple of GOP Senators in deep trouble with their re-election bids have formed such committees a loss on home turf on November 7th would likely negate any potential for the Presidential bid. Duncan faces no such threat but many who have formed such committees in the past did not end up running Lets us state for the record that Duncan should, nay MUST, run!!
The call made our afternoon. At a time when our nation so desperately needs leadership, direction and a strong hand at the helm, Duncans potential candidacy is, in my view, a Godsend.
Do yourself a favor and stack Duncan up against the list of announced Presidential candidates on the Gop and Democratic side. See links below.

Duncans bio may not include some personal references that we would like to make.
Duncan has stood strong for the Boy Scouts of America.
He has stood strong for the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial (instrumental in having it conveyed to the U.S. Department of Defense).
Hes stood strong for Charter Education.
Hes stood strong for American Defense. (hes a U.S. Army (Ranger ) (Vietnam)vet and one of his sons is a U.S. Marine who fought at falluja - and frankly was pissed when the first assault on that city was called off by Washington meddlers)
Hes supported our men and women in uniform, not only as a member of the U.S. Congress, but as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.
Hes stood tall for securing Americas Borders, having been instrumental in building the first ever stretch of fencing in the San Diego area.
Hes stood tall for Family Values, his family being the best evidence of his regard for God, Family and Country. He is a man of faith and his Christian values run deep and are openly professed.
Hes stood tall for the Second Amendment. Hes a decent (hed say great) rifle shot, a hunter and an outdoorsman.
Hes stood tall for small business. One of his personal heroes is the guy who founded Tylers Taste of Texas, a small restaurant in El Cajon that now has chapters in Yuma and elsewhere.
Hes mostly a lousy dresser. Though hes cleaned up a bit as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. Somebody bought an iron for him.
Hes a humble guy. Our first association with Duncan goes back a decade. Hed arrive at KSDO radio for an interview on Rogers radio show in a beat up station wagon driven by his then 70-something year old dad. No aides, no coat holders. Dad waited in the car (so he could hear and critique the radio interview).
Hes a man of humor and intellect.
He is direct. Just last week he issued a press release suggesting that Iraqi forces should be deployed to Baghdad to restore order there.
He reminds one of America. A pretty simple guy, an honest guy, a sincere guy, a man of faith, conviction intelligence and commitment. His friendship is a valued commodity.
Ive been blessed because Duncan is my Congressman. I have been honored to cast my vote for him in every election hes run since coming to California in 1991.
Thought youd want to know.

Duncan Hunter goes to the top of my list for President. I've always been an admirer from afar and think he'd make a great leader.
Thanks for the post, I finally have an option for 2008.
Duncan Hunter ping
Speaking as someone living in his district...he'd better have the cleanest underwear in history, and I'm not sure he does.
That doesn't sound good. Tell us what you know.
Thanks. I am reading pros and cons on another thread as well. Other than a few well-publicized votes and a couple of interviews, I don't know very much about him and don't know what to think.
Congressmen typically do very poorly as Presidential candidates--because Congressmen spend their entire time doing favors for local constituents, and they can make a bunch of enemies without even trying. The question is always "how MUCH are they doing in favors?"
Well, I'm going to keep an open mind, for the time being.
The existing field doesn't offer me what I'm looking for, so I'll welcome another hat in the ring.
This is great. I'll be supporting him all the way and will be sure he has the funds.
He's my congressman also and he'd be a great president!
And he's opposed to the Bush/Kennedy/McCain amnesty scheme!
Representative Duncan Hunter,( R-Calif.), announces that he is exploring the possibility of a run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 in San Diego. In the background is the retired aircraft carrier the USS Midway.
SAN DIEGO East County Congressman Duncan Hunter announced Monday that he will seek the Republican nomination in the 2008 presidential race.
Hunter, R-Alpine, made the announcement on downtown San Diego's waterfront against the backdrop of the aircraft carrier Midway.
As I finish my final two years as chairman of the Armed Services Committee, and serve you, I am also going to be preparing to run for president of the United States, Hunter said.
Woo-hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Duncan GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So far all you've provided against Duncan Hunter is your "feelings" and inuendo. How 'bout some links? Or is your problem that he wants to secure the border and has proven that the fence just finished in San Diego (because of him) is working??
They want the business, yes they will. So bug off, TROLL.
Thus, the acquisition of vital weapsons systems is in jeopardy.
With people like you running around...yes they are.
He's a great asset to California, and if he becomes the candidate, he'll have my support.
We don't believe your "clean" either. Put up or shut up. Ever hear of presumption of innocence? And this guy at least is willing to go into the arena, a meat-grinder for the Conservative Cause... And the RINOs have already FLUNKED the white-glove tests. McCain is so preposterously corrupt as the Keating Five case proved.
So what do you do... but infer Guilt by innuendo. Guilt by association. Guilt by mere accusation.
H'mmmm... sounds like you're an operative from the old Clinton War Room...
GO DUNCAN HUNTER!
I'm not familiar with him but he only scores a 41 out of a possible 100 on the Conservative Index. Tom Tancredo scores 77 and Ron Paul scores 100.
He is a patriot concerned about our national defense capabilities. Duncan Hunter wanted to eliminate the Xlintonian reduction of the U.S. content requirements of Defense Manufactures. Which were always there to assure we actually HAD a defense industry sufficient to the task of a collossal national emergency. U.S. industrial self-sufficiency was vital thereto. Under Reagan, 75% of all such manufactures had to be U.S. content. Under Clinton, it was reduced to 50% U.S. content. So there goes our U.S. tax dollars...to preferentially benefit our DE-INDUSTRIALIZING the U.S. and supporting foreigners. H'mmmm.
Duncan Hunter attempted to fight the entrenched foreign interests and their domestic sell-outs who were interested only in our outsourcing. He tried to restore the content-requirement to the 75% U.S. Content level.
"W" went ballistic...and threatened to VETO any such bill. About the only veto he even ever threatened. [Until the almost meaningless stem cell veto of a couple months ago...his ONLY VETO. Out of all the things that NEEDED vetoing....]
