this ad from the NRSC is simply devastating.

I don't think for one nanosecond that anyone thinks the Republicans are trying to appear as feminists. On the other hand, a Democrat woman who was leaning toward Webb is likely quite pissed off right now, and will not like what she sees on that commercial. All we need to do is dislodge a few thousand Democratic women.
Webb is a pervert.
Allen was going to win without running this NOW-ish ad. It's ill advised.
He wrote about the "horny women's dream" in a magazine article.
And here's a little inside baseball: he also lied to the women he wrote about to get them to open up to him about the sex that was going on. They were naive and trusted him.
Webb is a snake. He's another Bill Clinton, an ego in a suit who will do or say anything to get ahead. In other words, a perfect Democrat. I hope Allen cleans his clock.
That may all be true. But running an add that sounds like Gloria Steinem wrote it ain't gonna help.
I agree with you, but my guess is that this isn't going to run on Monday night football. More likely daytime TV (like Oprah) in urban areas. You can really do some fine targeting with cable these days.
It's a debatable strategy (and the debate continues to rage among consultants), but undercutting your opponents base is a really useful tool.
However, I'm beginning to see the devastating effect if this guy was elected with his military background.
He would be a huge thorn in Pres. Bush's side.
Please Virginia...DON'T ELECT THIS CREEP!
Actually, it may. It's aimed at moderate women, and could be enough to turn them away from Webb. Never underestimate the Oprahfication of the average soccer mom. "He made me feel bad" may turn off a few men, but not enough for them to vote Dem. On the other hand, that the kind of stuff will be lapped up like Haagen Daz by your average mushy middle female.
And if Allen can successfully separate the women from Webb, he's got it in the bag.
Excerpt from a Nov 2 2005 interview Webb gave to the "San Diego Union Tribune":
Interviewer:
The Scots-Irish voted with the Democrats from Andrew Jackson to Vietnam. Since Vietnam, they've increasingly voted Republican. The Democrats appear not to quite get this. Can the Democrats win another national election or regularly win them unless they somehow reconnect with this culture that you write about?
Webb:
They cannot. This cultural group is very much in play. Except for the Christian Right, which is based in this cultural group, it is not directly aligned with either party. But it has tended to vote Republican more because people like Karl Rove, I think, have understood the emotional buttons. But in terms of tangible socioeconomic benefits, it has not benefited by the presidencies of the last three or four presidents. The problem with the Democrats is that they got away from the Jacksonian message. The Democrats used to be the party where people went when they needed a voice on the national level. You cannot develop a national strategy based on group rights, minority rights, you can't do it. The Democrats need to understand that and get back to what they used to do.
Are you interested in running for political office?
I have been talking to people about running for the Senate next year against George Allen, as a Democrat from Virginia. I have a very good life. I'm not sure that I'm going to do that or not but I have been talking to people. Thinking about it.
Not Democrat women. Democrat women are the base of the Democrat party. They are immovable. This is targeting Republican and independent women who have voted for Allen in the past and are wavering on voting for him this year. Allen is only interested in getting people who have voted for him before to do so again, because that will mean he has won re-election.
"Jim Webb is a pervert." bump!
However, the ad is pretty NOW-ish. The 1806 line is like the NAACP calling the GOP the Taliban.
The Demonrat stratigist is a blond haired blue eyed Rodney King: "can't we all just get along?" "BTW ignore the WEBB behind the bushes in the trench coat he is just expressing his culture." She is bad enough to shine a light on all the nastiness of the Demonrats.
There is a rumor in the blogosphere that he had firsthand knowledge about the sex that was going on there. As I have said before, I don't share the outrage with the women in combat article, but this rumor, if true, is another thing entirely.
"...a mole perhaps? "
I do not recall the details, but I seem to remember he was not there long.
I may be mistaken ?
