Fox Responds To Limbaugh's Accusations

(CBS News) Responding to criticism by conservative pundit Rush Limbaugh, actor Michael J. Fox defended his appearance in a political campaign ad, saying he wasn't acting or off his medication.

In fact, at the time he was over-medicated for his Parkinson's disease, Fox said in an exclusive interview with CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric.

"The irony is that I was too medicated, I was dyskinesic," Fox told Couric. "Because the thing about, the thing about being symptomatic is that it's not comfortable. No one wants to be symptomatic; it's like being hit with a hammer."

His body visibly wracked by tremors, Fox appears in a political ad that prompted Limbaugh to speculate that Fox was "either off his medication or acting."

Fox told Couric, "At this point now, if I didn't take medication I wouldn't be able to speak."

He said that he appeared in the ad only to advance his cause, and that, "Disease is a non-partisan problem that requires a bi-partisan solution."

"You know what, I don't really care about politics," Fox said. "We want to appeal to voters to elect the people that are going to give us a margin, so we can't be vetoed again."

You're exactly right. But unfortunately, there are still way too many who call themselves conservatives that just don't 'get it'.

After witnessing how the lefties were in 'lock-step' re: the state-legislated slow starvation of Terri Shiavo, I can tell you, first hand, that the leftists HAVE no compassion, no shame and no conscience. (but what can you expect from a group of people that mostly have no faith in God or are anti-Christian?).

Anything beyond that fact and reality is just a delusion and willingness to let them bullshit you. Sorry but, that's just my opinion based on past experience. There are way too many ""conservatives"" that seem to have fallen for this bs concept of the compassionate leftie. Like everything else they represent and pretend to be, it's a farce.

There is apparently nothing the 'RATs won't stoop to...

Wow, he may be a homosexual too.

He also had an abortion -- very difficult for a man.

A few thoughts on Michael J. Fox.

Parkinson's Disease. Named for British physician James Parkinson. He called it "the shaking palsy", this in 1817. I have some prominent sufferers listed. Herewith:

Pope John Paul II, Attorney General Janet Reno, Reverend Billy Graham, actress Kathryn Hepburn, former Boxing Champion Muhammad Ali, and country singer John R. Cash.

I have observed all of these persons, though obviously not closely in the case of the pope. I believe Mr Fox to be backing up somewhat. He is covering for his acting up too vigorously. He has claimed he took American citizenship because he wanted to vote.

Here on Canada T/V, I saw Bob Geldof opening a new research centre yesterday. The McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine. A Mount Sinai School of Medicine doctor, originally from Canada has headed north. He is one of the foremost researchers in stem cells.

Michael Fox, I empathize with you. Nonetheless. Shame on you. Be a contributor, not a political shill.

All he really does care about is politics with that statement. A leftist shill using his celebrity and victimhood to support the rats.

Rush was taking painkillers for a back problem, not for fun. Two totally different situations.

Stephanolopis said today that Fox will be on his show Sunday. He has invited Rush to also appear. When ask if he would ask about medications Steph. said he certainly would ask.

Coulter said that liberals love to bring out victims, use them as political weapons and then use their victim status to shield them, and their ideas, from criticism. Her main example was the "Jersey Girls" but it applies in a wide area.

If she were liberal, she'd be the biggest media star now.

A caller on Rush's show today commented that the ad was taped and if in fact he "over medicated" they could have just waited.

From the September issue of Ladies Home Journal

LHJ: What medications do you take on a regular basis?

MJF: I'm on levodopa and dopamine agonist. Lately I have also been taking a medication to reduce dyskinesia [abnormal involuntary movements], which is a side effect of the levodopa. [EDITOR'S NOTE: See "What Is Parkinson's Disease?"]

LHJ: Do you have to be careful to time your medication to be effective when you have things to do, so the shaking and tics are lessened?

MJF: Yes. Timing meds is a matter of responding to symptoms as they appear. Or even better, anticipating symptoms and taking meds beforehand. Because everyone's PD is different, it's an always-changing process. It can sneak up on you. If I forget, I get into a cycle of catching up, and it can throw the day off.

Rush's attack was sloppy, amatuerish, and poorly thought out.

I don't know about that. I didn't hear an attack. And look at all he accomplished...

It has caused dozens of MSM liars to focus on Rush exclusively.

That takes focus off of the "Foley Scandal."

It brings attention to stem-cell research. Which carries with it the potential to find out that embryonic SCs have yielded 0 results and adult SC and umbilical SC research has yielded as many as 80 therapies.

It carries the potential to enlighten thousands of MO voters that the ballot initiative there is about cloning and not SCs.

It brings thousands of people to the RL show looking for ammo against him who will find everything they've heard about him is BS.

It carries the potential to enlighten thousands of Americans that embryos are living human beings that will be destroyed for research.

It carries the potential to enlighten thousands of people that if even one cure or viable therapy is ever developed from embryonic SCs then the demand for embryos will soar into the tens or hundreds of thousands.

Rush takes the heat for popping the liberal balloon of victim-hood exploitation which makes it easier for everyone else to find a pair and call the libs out on it in the future.

It's a great thing! : )

What I do know is that despite all the information he has about his disease, and despite the fact that Parkinson's does not affect intellingence, that it doesn't change the fact that he is still being destroyed by his illness. It is true that there is alot of information available about Parkinson's disease, but it is also true that there is still no cure in sight. Until you are in a position where your life is being systematically destroyed more and more every day by an illness that will not relent until you are dead, you are not in a position to determine what is going on inside of his head.

You can be honest and tell him that adult stem cell research has much more potential but that there is no guarantee of it producing a cure, or you can lie to him and tell him that embryonic stem cell research will guarantee a cure. Now, what do you think someone in his position is going to pin his hopes, the non guarantee (truth) or the guarantee (lie)?

Why doesn't Rush invite Fox on HIS show to discuss this issue? Wouldn't that make more sense than two people just talking about each other on other people's shows??

With all due respect that's complete malarkey. He speaks English in complete sentences. Being able to do the same puts me in a perfect position to determine what he has said which is a pretty accurate indicator of what's going on in his head.

Few people in the world are in a better position to know exactly what's true and not true in SC research than MJF. He made a partisan ad spouting easily refuted statements and making character smearing remarks about Pres. Bush and Jim Talent. His desperate circumstances are no excuse. He's a shill, a hack and a demagogue.

Okay. I generally agree with each of your points, although I would have phrased things a little differently. My main point is that there are some posters on this thread that are being unnecessarily mean spirited to a man who deserves respect for what he's been through and what he's going through.

No, I don't agree with the commercial or his views on stem cell research, but I do have tremendous respect for him as a person.

I grew up watching Michael and have seen him at his best, fun, full of life and strength. And now I see him, weakened and shaking, trying to control his fits, and yet still having the guts to talk in front of the camera in his humbled condition and speak about what he believes him. I call that dignity.

I've cared for Parkinson's patients, and have seen the effects of both over- and under-medication.

When I saw the Michael J. Fox ad, I had the same gut-reaction Rush did. I was repelled by what looked to me like a carefully planned performance.

No, I'm not saying Fox "faked" it, but that I suspect he deliberately enhanced his physical problems to evoke sympathy --and to scare away critics who might dare challenge his lies.

If I'm right (about his "enhanced" performance), then what he did is anything but "dignified." It's despicable.

He partied a lot from what I read, don't know about drugs, but alcohol was mentioned. His medical condition is sad regardless, but killing a fetus to save himself is sick irregardless. What's wrong with adult stem cell research?

I recall reading of heavy tequila drinking and coke use in his younger days. I also recall reading how he said his life changed 180 degrees when his son was born. His comment was to the effect that he would "Throw himself in front of a bus" for his new baby.

Ironic that he'd sacrifice himself for his baby, but will sacrifice thousands of other lives for himself without a blink.

The left has as a tactic to immunize a message by using a victim as a messenger.

You can't address the content of the argument because they say you are attacking a victim.

I reject the premise.

What ever else Michael is or does.. He intentionally and willfully participated in a fraud..

This does put his character in question.

Liberals want to be judged on their good intentions rather than the outcome of their actions. It is old policy to silence debate by trotting out victims...

I actually think this is an excellent debate and something that needs to be in the public arena.
