LONDON (Reuters) - Only one of the ancient wonders of the world still survives -- now history lovers are being invited to choose a new list of seven.

Among 21 locations shortlisted for the worldwide vote is Stonehenge, the only British landmark selected.

The 5,000-year-old stones on Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire, will be up against sites including the Acropolis in Athens; the Statue of Liberty in New York; and the last remaining original wonder, the Pyramids of Giza in Cairo.

As much as I love the Statue of Liberty, I don't think it should be picked. Large statues are nothing new and the technology was around quite a while before the Statue of Liberty (and definitely the Jesus statue in Rio) were produced.

How about this suggestion . . . the U.S. Constitution? It was very novel at the time, but has carried on quite well and has been the model for many nations since.

The U.S. Constitution . . . "It takes a lickin', but keeps on tickin'!"

#22 - Buddhas of Bamiyan

Oh, whoops, Islamic extremists destroyed that one... just like they'd like to destroy everyone other one of these that doesn't represent Sharia Law.

:-P

These are all such intellectual locations.

It seems to me places people consider really wonderful should be on it. Whar are the top tourist destinations in the world?

And I refuse to consider a list without a NY skyscraper on it. Where is the empire state or chrylser building? They are modern engineering marvels.

I'd vote for that grilled-cheese sandwich with Mary on it.

Heck, what about Dolly Parton herself, although I don't know if that would be a "natural" wonder.

I might be wrong but I think that could be Paris, France. Lot of amazing things in that city.

Personally, I think the Space Shuttle and the Stealth Bomber are pretty amazing things.
