" North Korea has nothing...they have nothing to lose. If the world economy tanks, Kim Jong Il yawns and says "so what?" Not so for us,---"

That's a philosophy that allows money to literally control our lives. You won't know what a "tanked economy" is until Kim jong Ill lobs a nuke into Los Angeles. As for NK having nothing to lose, that's just plain wrong. They have their lives and their peace to lose, the two most precious things. Remember, they are not islamo-barbarians who think they will go to virgin paradise if killed by an "infidel"...... they want to live. Anyway, it's too late now; all we can do is hope they don't fire a nuke at the U.S. or our interests, or sell a nuke to the terrorists.

And oc course we would not be in this mess if it was not for the party of jackasses led by Clinton. Another failure by him that history will hold him accountable for.

South Korea, Japan, Indonesia will have to go nuclear.

It's the prospect of nuclear-armed neighbors, including an insanely nuclear Kim, that China doesn't like.

Even a small number of nukes on cruise missiles spoils all the plans of a budding empire-builder. None of China's plans to dominate the region can work if they face nuclear-armed neighbors.

Personally, I'd like to see Japan and Taiwan build nukes ASAP.

That's good, but China and Japan just said yesterday that a NK nuke test was "unacceptable". OK, well, are they accepting it or not?

I'll say plainly what I think should happen. Risky as hell. But we should let China know if they don't put a stop to this we will, and decisively. The NK leadfership should be told we wil take out their program and them in short order. China should be given an opportunity to go in and get the job done on the ground. But not a long opportunity. And if we have to attack, yes we risk NK launching devastating attacks on Seoul.

First, I believe Kim would back down. Second, if he didn't we would resolve this once and for all.

Maybe a head strong policy but thus far we seem to have achieved a nuclear N Korea. I think NK does not want our attention, our oil or our money. They want nuclear weapons and missiles to deliver them with.

Well, some commentators have been talking about the news cycle and what could change it. Key among the suggestions was a nuke test in North Korea. Should they tag a sign on their door and charge for fortunes? I suspect they knew this was in the works. While we have been occupied on another topic, I have kept updated with real news and this doesn't shock me based on comments by those like Kristol and so forth.

Anyway, I would just like to offer my sincere congratulations to the following people and organizations. Not to exclude anyone, but these are uniquely qualified for praise.

Bill Clinton. Jimmy Carter. The U.N. China.

Well done folks, you've succeeded in arming a two bit whacked out dictator.

Today marks the beginning of the swift end of Japan's (pacifist) Article 9 in their Constitution, and the beginning of a nuclear armed Japan.

Another momentous step in Japan's history back onto the stage of the Super Powers, IMHO.

10 nuclear bombs would also kill
a lot of people..and when you think
about it..they'd be mostly civilians
as they wou;d be used against
population centers, whereas destroying
NKs artillery, would "mostly" kill
armed combatants.

Sorry, we phased out our W80-tipped Tomahawks back in the early 1990's (they were all rebuilt into conventional warhead versions). The only nuclear-armed cruise missiles we have are the AGM-86B's that still retain the original 200 kT W80 warhead and the AGM-129A Advanced Cruise Missile, both of which are carried by our B-52H fleet.

"NK is a wholly owned subsidiary of China. The PRC pulls the strings, NK plays a tune, we dance around and complain."

We do lots more than just dance around an complain about China. We also do things like make China our biggest trading partner, let them operate a half dozen of our sea ports, and help expand their economy so they can build their military machine. All this while we trade under a 200 billion dollar deficit with them. Brilliant strategy, eh?

This wouldn't have happened if Peking didn't want it to.

China can talk all they want about it being unacceptable and going through the motions of talk and negotiations, but anyone with any common sense knows who's side China is on and what their ultimate goals are.

Now, I'm not saying that they're celebrating in Zhongnanhai but if this was something that they felt that strongly about it wouldn't have happened.

The bottom line is that China is ok with this and implicitly approves and we should plan accordingly.

I agree to a point, but as bad as our guys have been, the Dems would be worse. They're all worthless, but I'm not convinced they're all EQUALLY worthless yet. Do you HONESTLY thing putting Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi in charge of things would help this situation? They'll spend the next two years trying to impeach Bush for stealing Girl Scout cookies or paying the gardener too much, meanwhile Kim Jong and Iran will be loading up on nukes.

I agree with you, though. I'm disgusted with OUR guys too at this point. I'm just scared of the Dems. No point in jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

What's depressing is that I'm not greatly comforted by our '08 candidates either. Depressing... Why can't we find another Ronald Reagan?
