Vanity: John Cougar's "Our Country" Chevy Commercial

Posted on 10/05/2006 1:48:52 PM PDT by slowhand520

Anyone else peeved as I am at this nonsense? I am assuming it is a patriotic song. The images you see during this commercial are Vietnam War protestors, the peace sign, Nixon waving goodbye before he gets on his helicopter, and Katrina flooding. What a depressing commercial. Kind of defeatist if you ask me. Thoughts?

I've just seen a new version of this commercial, it has a boy scout in it, a Nascar driver and few other things.
They removed all of the stinking hippy crap.

The more I see it, the more I like it.

It's about overcoming adversity. Sure he showed the floods and fires, but he also showed a line of trucks showing up to rebuild, and nice shots of military and firefighters.

I'm okay with it.

I guess I'm ok with it, but the fact that it's Cougar rubs me the wrong way. I probably wouldn't buy a Chevy anyway, but I might have been more likely to think about it if they had picked a political unknown.

I don't know enough about him to be rubbed. :-)

I guess I'm hopelessly out of touch with pop culture!

He's a very talented guy, but one of those "love my country but hate George Bush" folks.
