Appeal on school's lesson in Muslim culture is rejected

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal Monday by evangelical Christian students and their parents who said a Contra Costa County school district engaged in unconstitutional religious indoctrination when it taught students about Islam by having them recite language from prayers.

...

... The teacher, using an instructional guide, told students they would adopt roles as Muslims for three weeks to help them learn what Muslims believe.

She encouraged them to use Muslim names, recited prayers in class, had them memorize and recite a passage from the Quran and made them give up something for a day, such as television or candy, to simulate fasting during the month of Ramadan. The final exam asked students for a critique of elements of Muslim culture.

The Supremes let stand an Islamic indoctrination. You can bet if it were a Christian indoctrination, the Supremes would have been against that.

Just imagine if one teacher held up two sticks at "an inappropriate angle" and said something like, "this symbol has been used for over 2000 years".

Just imagine. The ACLU would be wailing and gnashing their teeth, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

10,000 MSM journalists would be shaking their head in grave and troubled concern.

Where was the ACLU on this one? Ok, ok, I know. The ACLU is ALWAYS opposed to Christians.

Patently absurd.

I cannot understand it.

How in the world can they render this decision when THEY know and WE know that if you were to substitute the word "Christian" for "Muslim" in the case, they would have voted the other way.

It's INCREDIBLE.

The world is truly topsy-turvy when a "religion" whose "prophet" preaches hate, and death, and destruction, and practices every form of barbaric savagery on the populations it controls, is granted access to the public schools and the religion whose Prophet preaches love, and forebearance, and grace and mercy is forbidden.

But, then again, the Bible tells us that this is the way it's going to go.

How you gonna teach them to be Muslims?

Can't take knives or bombs to school.

I thought this was going to be a conservative SCOTUS, or did I hear that wrong?

Maybe the SCOTUS is getting ready to reverse a whole slew of bad precedent regarding the "establishment clause". If so this would tend to make sense. That said, I am not holding my breath.

The article said -- "She encouraged them to use Muslim names, recited prayers in class, had them memorize and recite a passage from the Quran and made them give up something for a day, such as television or candy, to simulate fasting during the month of Ramadan. The final exam asked students for a critique of elements of Muslim culture."

To test the *true balance* of that decision -- what should be done is that for an equal period of time, students who did the "Muslim exercise" should do a similar type of "Christian exercise" (to show what Christianity is all about, too).

AND THEN, the students should compare the differences between Christianity and Islam and which they think is better, right, wrong or whether it makes any difference.

If someone objects to the Christianity exercise and it's objected to by a court of law (and put down) -- then this is not a balanced decision.

I wonder who would be able to do this in some school as a test of the law?

Star Traveler

The logical response is for another teach to do EXACTLY as this first teacher did, but also divide the class into three sections so Muslims, Jews and Christians are all represented. That way three different sets of prayers and memorizations from the Koran, Torah and New Testament can all be a part of this class project. Then let's see what happens if someone tries to stop it in the courts.

On what basis was this allowed to stand? Will they allow "assume roles as Christians for the next three weeks?" or "Assume roles as Jews for the next three weeks?"

Amazing!

Did it go before one Supreme Court justice or all of them?

Whether a case is heard or not is usually decided by just one of the nine.

Does anyone have more info on this case?

Any teachers out there? Try an experiment.

Do the exact same thing about Christianity and see what happens.

Be sure to have a printed copy of the court decision when you do. After all, it is "instuctional", isn't it?

Have kids take Biblical names. Eat Christian-themed foods, such as cross buns. Have a "crusade" to the Holy Land in class! Read from the Bible.

I'm sure this will work. The ACLU will have no problem with it. Wave the court opinion at them if they do.

She encouraged them to use Muslim names, recited prayers in class, had them memorize and recite a passage from the Quran

If the prayer they recited and memorized was the shahadah (There is no dog but Allah and Mohammed is his beyotch) that constitutes automatic conversion to Islam.

No appeals in Sharia court.
