I honestly don't know how much good a boycott would do. I think they rarely make much difference. At the same time I know that no decent American of either party should be giving money to that SOB down south.

I'm boycotting! Now I only use Iranian oil.

I will not give my hard-earned money to CITGO. At least I will know I am doing something.

I have been boycotting them for years, but then again, I don't think we have any Citgo stations in this area.

AFA notes Chavez told a television audience recently: "Enough of imperialist aggression; we must tell the world: down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century."
Shades of an EX-russian premiere ?
Let's Boycott Citgo .... There's always another gas station to go to and it will take the teeth out of this snake !

When libnut groups (also Bill "Bozo" O'Reilly) encouraged boycotting ExxonMobil, I went out of my way to buy Exxon or Mobil. I never have and never will buy Citgo, but this kind of publicity drives libnuts to buy Citgo to support a Marxist ally, so I would guess the net effect is near zero.

Sometimes it works:
It's Working: France Wineries Reeling Under BoycottFrench wineries are withering as millions of Americans have begun a boycott of French wine and other French goods, the New York Times reported Thursday. The Times report, "A Most Unsettling Time for French Wineries, appeared on the cover of the World Business section of the paper.

I never bought Citgo and would not start now, but this issue will be another dividing mark between Red and Blue staters. On a current Dee Ewe thread there are 50+ posters claiming to buy only Citgo and others who will shift to only buying Citgo, one apparent boycotter of Citgo, and one Amoco user.

They don't give a damn about a "boycott". Now, potentially a boycott could put a hurt on some retailers who then might have some influence. But I seriously doubt that.
I have a CITGO card. I stopped using it about six months ago when my mechanic highly recommended I change to Chevron because of the quality of their additives. I have been meaning to cancel the account for months. So, WTH, I'll cancel it this week and claim I'm doing it because of Chavez. But I'm under no illusion that CITGO cares.

I have noted that Citgo has begun radio spots in some parts of the nation noting Citgo stations are locally owned. Boycotts do hurt. It hurt Exxon right after the Exxon Valdez spilled oil from Prince William Sound.

I'm on the fence about this one. There is a Citgo station about a half a mile from my house that is owned/operated by a local family. They have a nice business with 3 bays for car repair,tires,etc.. These folks will be hurting more than Chavez will in a boycott.

If he really wanted to bring down the US, he'd stop selling us oil.

I think the only people an effective boycott would harm would be the American employees and retailers of Citgo, from domestic executives down to the truck drivers and service station operators and employees.
Let's face it -- nearly all petro dollars support despotic thug regimes and terrorist enemies of the USA --- Saudi, Iranian, Venezualan, Bolivian, etc.
Our time would be better spent forcing Congress to act on ANWR which would really be a positive step in dealing with the global energy problem.

Just because some people say they don't work; that doesn't mean they don't. With no money coming in; they won't be there for long and be forced out of business. I don't know why they are still in business anyway. I hardly see them anymore. Do they sell under any other name?
