After a UN speech in which he called US President Bush "Satan," Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez got a standing ovation with another anti-Bush speech at a New York college.
The South American leader spoke at Cooper Union last night before a packed audience including professors and union organizers.
Chavez proclaimed himself "a friend" of the people of the United States, but said he hopes next time, they'll choose, in his words, an "intelligent president."
He got the standing ovation for comments accusing Bush of committing genocide in Iraq.
Chavez compared the Bush administration's actions to those of the Nazis and said the U-S president should be brought before an international tribunal.
Venezuela's president has become Latin America's leading voice against the US government, taking on the crusading style of his mentor, Fidel Castro.
The US is the top customer for Venezuela's oil.
Chavez and guests attended by invitation only.
NEW YORK Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, appearing Thursday at a Harlem Church for an oil-for-poor event, repeated his 'devil' reference hurled a day earlier at President Bush during a speech at the United Nations.
"They told me that I should be careful after I called him the devil and I think he is the devil because he might kill me" Chavez told a crowd packed into the Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Harlem.
"But, I place myself in the hands of God," he said.

Communist propaganda infiltrating our schools and churches?
The man only says these things to get attention, which he craves more than anything.
Most likely faculty! Cuba, Venezuala and Universities are the only places that still believe in Communism.

Cooper Union has not charged tuition in my memory. It was, and is I believe, an excellent school of engineering and architecture. It may heve incorporated the arts asplaces like Parsons School and the New School have also done. I believe the funding is privately endowed. It was at The Coope Union that Abraham Licoln made his most famous pre presidency speech. I guess the standards in oratorical guests have fallen quite a bit since 1860.
How sad......then as a private funded school they have some weird priorities.....I'll have to see if I can figure out who's behind them.
Among the other miscellaneous themes addressed by Chavez that I jotted down on my notepad:
- Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation
- Afro Venezuelans
- Noted political writer Noam Chomsky, whose latest book talks about how U.S. dominance could give rise to the extinction of the human race
- Noted American author Mark Twain, who espoused anti imperialist politics
- astronomy and the planet Mars, advances in NASA technology and his own ponderings of the universe and Big Bang theory
- Chavez's own global travels throughout Africa, Portugal, Spain, and South America
- Peter Cooper and the importance of Cooper Union as an educational institution (this fed into a wider discussion of educational advances in Venezuela and Simon Rodriguez, Simon Bolivar's tutor)
- structural reform of the United Nations
- U.S. President John F. Kennedy, who was killed by the American right wing
- Martin Luther King, who would have been U.S. president if he had not been assassinated
He left the speech before he could hear Chavez proclaim his desire to visit Louis Farrakhan's Mother Ship in outer space and his intention to have plastic surgery to make him look like his idol Mao Tse Tung.
Yes. Chumpsky and his ilk should be afraid.
According to Cooper Union's website under "admissions" they accept federal Pell grants and private grants. (As far as I know only Hilldale College in Michigan is 100% free from federal money and 100% private. Does anyone know if that is accurate?)
You got that right....we have totally lost our bearings, our self-respect, our pride of being Americans. "Multiculturism", open borders, pandering to the UN, outsourcing, the ACLU, weak RINO's....all are doing us in. It's hard to believe and harder to watch.
Hate to say it, this country has gone weak... We've basically allowed an enemy on shore to bad mouthed a sitting president.
I'd love to see our president go to any hostile country and start insulting its leader...

My guess is that the Hasidim were members of a fringe group that are against the creation of the state of Israel. They were making the rounds here today...
So many Moonbats are making the rounds in NYC, it's like trick-or-treat week for lefty lunatics.
".....we'd open ourselves up to a charge of hypocrisy on the freedom of speech front."
Freedom is speech is for Americans. Not for communists who are advocating the overthrow of our country.
