Although France's government opposed the US-led war in Iraq, French officials believe the country is still a target for Islamist militants.

Of course... Iraq had nothing to do with al Qaeda, anyway--remember?

When will these morons realize it is not the members of the coalition that the islamofascists are targeting -- they target whoever is the easiest to hit.

Bring it on ! Maybe those yellow-bellies will grow a spine and some b*lls and take a stand for once !

I spent some time there recently. The French are proud and deeply patriotic. If focused, their military and intelligence services are effective and ruthless. AQ would likely regret attacking them.

Their message doesn't change: they want to kill all of us infidels.

"The sooner the French realize that we're all in this together, the more effective the struggle against islamofascism will be." Agreed. And the sooner you realize we have been in this with you since like day one, the more effective we will all be.

5) And still the Islamofascists are going to target France.

With more than 1,900 troops, France is also a major US partner in Afghanistan where in particular French fighter aircraft are presently providing close air support to both the NATO International Security Assistance Force and the American-led Operation Enduring Freedom.

Not possible. Nancy Pelosi says AQ is only in Afghanistan.

I know about France helping in Afghanistan. That's why I specifically said they don't support the war in Iraq.

It is the war in Iraq that the liars on the left are constantly telling us is making the jihadists target our allies and the US.

You don't have to be in Iraq to be in Aq's crossing hairs. Osama Ben Laden wasn't based in Baghdad when the planes hit the WTC, remember ?

You might also want to remember - as AQ leaders certainly do - that France was and still is part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan from day one. Or that it arrested AQ-related terrorists who were planning an attack against the US embassy in Paris in 2004. Or that it arrested 175 Islamists since 9/11, and deported 15 Imams preaching violence against the West.

Alot of our fellow Freepers posting here do not understand the history and culture of France and Africa, especially France and Algeria.

Algeria was once thought a part of France and in fact even today the South of France is referred to as 'Le Midi' meaning the middle, whereas Algeria was thought of as South France.

So Algerian Arabs are very much aligned with France in the same way as Puerto Ricans are to the USA. We can also look at Algerians that moved to France in the same way that Cubans moved to Florida.

Once this context is understood, and given that political correctness and multiculturalism has affected France in the same way as it has America, then one should be able to sympathize more with France's current dilemma..

Where criticism is deserved (IMO) is in the Oil-For-Food corruption and the delays that France caused in the invasion of Iraq. Rather than take an adversarial position to the USA in the UN as to Saddam Hussein's regime, France could have taken a neutral position while quietly demanding compensation or insurance/protection for its commercial interests in Iraq (Total, Elf, Fina etc.).

The Islamofascists are not going to be satisfied with anything less than France's conversion to Islam. I guess appeasement and multi-cultural sensitivity aren't enough.

Fear of Arab fanatics in France goes much deeper than most realize.

They (French Arab fanatics) are much more embedded in French society than illegal aliens are in the USA. France acts in a way most practical, to keep the fanatics calm and not stir them up to rioting.

To think that France could deport their Arab fanatic population is difficult as it is not an easy thing to determine under French justice who is and who is not a fanatic. Only when there are death and destruction in riots can the French authorities determine who should be deported.

It would be easier to deport 20 million illegal aliens from the USA than to deport 8 million 'legal' Arabs from France.

France also relies economically on Arab countries for resources in Africa. So a mass deportation of Arabs from France would have severe repercussions in their economy.

France has a bigger problem with Arabs than Americans have with illegals that come from south of the USA border.

Don't worry there is still time to surrender before they attack.

Please see Peach's post at #11. I don't see a need to waste time by repeating those points.

We are no strangers to Algerian terrorism against French interests. in 1994, a group of hijackers linked to the Algerian Armes Islamist Groups took over an Air France plane in Algiers Airport.

The Algerian government gave the green light for the deployment of the GIGN - the French Gendarmerie's anti-terrorist unit - which assaulted the plane and killed the hijackers. The pilot said they wanted him to fly the plane into Paris and crash it into the city. It is after that foiled attack that AQ realized pilots couldn't be relied upon to crash the airliners into civilian targets, that they had to have their own operatives go through flight schools.

In 1995, we had an Algerian terrorist cell that organized bomb attacks in Paris - including a deadly one in the subway. Every last member of the cell, including cell leader Khaled Kelkal was killed. As for the "banker" of the group, Great Britain refused to extradite him until last year, despite numerous demands so he can be judged for his crime...

It isn't the first threat of the GSPC against France either. Last year, the GSPC relased a communiqué saying France was it deadliest enemy or something like that - their twisted recognition of French support to the Algerian government in their decade-long struggle against the GIA and the GSPC.

Have they converted to Wahabi Islam? If not they haven't done enough and they're infidel targets.

All that appeasement for nothing. Isn't that the way it always works out?

The French will get it about the same time the dems do.
