We are no strangers to Algerian terrorism against French interests. in 1994, a group of hijackers linked to the Algerian Armes Islamist Groups took over an Air France plane in Algiers Airport.

The Algerian government gave the green light for the deployment of the GIGN - the French Gendarmerie's anti-terrorist unit - which assaulted the plane and killed the hijackers. The pilot said they wanted him to fly the plane into Paris and crash it into the city. It is after that foiled attack that AQ realized pilots couldn't be relied upon to crash the airliners into civilian targets, that they had to have their own operatives go through flight schools.

In 1995, we had an Algerian terrorist cell that organized bomb attacks in Paris - including a deadly one in the subway. Every last member of the cell, including cell leader Khaled Kelkal was killed. As for the "banker" of the group, Great Britain refused to extradite him until last year, despite numerous demands so he can be judged for his crime...

It isn't the first threat of the GSPC against France either. Last year, the GSPC relased a communiqué saying France was it deadliest enemy or something like that - their twisted recognition of French support to the Algerian government in their decade-long struggle against the GIA and the GSPC.
