There is an idiot professor Robert Pape saying the reason there are suicide bombers is to boot American troops out of the arabian peninsula. His logic is based on numbers of bombing attacks that have increased since we entered Iraq. Of course he adds that we shouldn't blame ourselves for this - apparently to obfuscate those that would attack his so-called logic.
His so-called logic doesn't explain how we were attacked in 1993, 1995 etc.
Anyone else watching this farce?
Nope.
Illogical.
I watched. He says we had troops in Saudia Arabia since 1990 and the first Iraq war and in other countries there. That would be the same motivation. Then we went into Afghanistand and Iraq again to avenge 9-11, making things worse. That's his story-not mine!! Just explaining how he explains the earlier attacks.
He's claiming terrorists have a rational reason for attacking and that allw e need to do is leave Iraq and the stop killing people. This guy hasn't a clue what our enemy wants.
About 2003, Israel began to target Hamas leaders for assassination, they moved armor into the west bank, they used bulldozers. Suicide bomings and other attacks decreased dramatically.
Since the U.S.A. invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, the U.S.A. has not been attacked by Islamowhackos.
Kill more of 'em.
yitbos
Based on what I see on TV, "professors" are idiots.
Our being in these places certainly does anger many Muslims, it's clear. However, there is one thing that makes them even angrier: We are not Muslims. If we had no presence in the Middle East, they would still be attacking us for this fact alone. They hate democracy, personal expression, the promiscuity of the West...everything about it. Remember the Danish cartoon? This cartoon was printed in Denmark, but Danish free expression offended Muslims. Remember Salman Rushdie...?
Consider ... Every American and every Israeli is killed .. no more exist, finito, extinct ... and the smelly ones come over here and taste our technology ... Japan is westernized ... So is Russia, and Germany and France and England and ... well ... you get the picture ... the killing will never stop.
Let me say that again .. the Islamists will never stop killing .. it's part of their culture, and unless they exchange their culture for another ... they will always want to kill.
So, the answer is .. really .. like God told the Hebrews .. go kill them all .. their men, their women, their children, their cattle and sheep and goats.
When no-one else is around, muslims like to slaughter each other.
Since I am not in academia; I'll post these suicide-homicide links for anyone interested.

"the reason there are suicide bombers"
1993 wasn't a suicide attack. The only attack against the US I remember in 1995 was Oklahoma City. It wasn't even carried out by Muslims and wasn't a suicide bomber either.
Professor Pape says that the attack on the World Trade Center came because of our presence in the Arabian Peninsula, contrary to what some posters believe.
The suicide bombers have a well thought out plan. First is to divide the Muslim world from the West and then to break up the west. When America's isolated it can be attacked. Therefore our sacrifices in Iraq has done nothing to forestall an attack on the homeland. Such an attack has not occurred because it is not convenient for the enemy.
So far everything we are doing in the Iraq war plays into that plan and advances it. Nothing are doing there prevents an attack on our homeland. Those attacks will come in due course after America is diplomatically isolated.
He has not advised cutting and running but he wants to move a mobile force offshore on carriers ready to move into any area in the Middle East. He notes with approval our policy of establishing low-profile bases in Saudi Arabia which can be used to supply our troops as they enter a theater.
I suggest you take a look at this article which appears in the current issue of the American conservative the introduction to which is as follows:

The Logic of Suicide Terrorism
Its the occupation, not the fundamentalism
Last month, Scott McConnell caught up with Associate Professor Robert Pape of the University of Chicago, whose book on suicide terrorism, Dying to Win, is beginning to receive wide notice. Pape has found that the most common American perceptions about who the terrorists are and what motivates them are off by a wide margin. In his office is the worlds largest database of information about suicide terrorists, rows and rows of manila folders containing articles and biographical snippets in dozens of languages compiled by Pape and teams of graduate students, a trove of data that has been sorted and analyzed and which underscores the great need for reappraising the Bush administrations current strategy. Below are excerpts from a conversation with the man who knows more about suicide terrorists than any other American.
If the professor is claiming that the attacks on us are because of our presence on the soil of the Arabian Peninsula, beginning with the Gulf War in 1991, how does he explain the very first attack on America by Islamic radicals, the takeover of the American Embassy in Beirut in 1979?
Program is on again now. Pape has finished his presentation and now a panel discussion is on. Looks like it will last for about an hour and a half:
_________
Preble, Christopher A. Director, Cato Institute, Foreign Policy Studies
Priest, Dana Correspondent, [Washington Post], National Security
Pape, Robert A. Associate Professor, University of Chicago, Political Science
Kohut, Andrew President, Pew Research Center
Leverett, Flynt L. Senior Fellow, New America Foundation
Beers, Rand President, National Security Network
Robert Pape presented the findings of his most recent research, "Suicide Terrorism and Democracy: What We've Learned Since 9/11." He concluded that suicide terrorism continues to follow a strategic logic, and that suicide attackers are primarily motivated by resistance to occupation by a foreign power. Mr.Pape's talk was followed by a panel discussion of U.S. strategy in the war on terrorism.
Robert Pape is the author of the book Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism, published by Random House.
"Based on what I see on TV, "professors" are idiots."
With my eyes rolling, welcome to FreeRepublic.
I caught part of it. His logic -- get out of the Arab penisula and Jihad suicide attacks cease. He's nuts.
