yeah, a high protein diet will reduce your appetite as you deal with the pain fromt he Kidney stone you get with it. Also isn't good for your kidneys.

The over-processed, white bread diet that Americans eat is the primary cause of obesity. That coupled with a lack of exercise. High protien diets are not rocket surgery and can produce marked weight loss.

People on the Atkins diet don't feel as hungry...

That's how it works.

After a week of eating nothing but cheese and meat sauteed in oil, you really don't feel like eating much more cheese and meat sauteed in oil.

I did Atkins for some time.Atkins is a high protein, low just-about-everything-else diet.I was amazed how easily I was able to avoid various kinds of junk food as well as how easy it was to avoid late night snacking.

Also, while on Atkins,I *never* felt hungry and with the diet, combined with moderate exercise, the pounds (about 30 of them) just melted off of me.

If you go the high-protein route, you definately have to drink a lot, and have no history of kidney problems.

Also, periodically, you should do a carb re-feed. That, or you'll sort of go out of your mind.

But it's true --protein will quash the munchies more effectively than fat.

I went from 260 pounds to 201, so far. I also did lot of cardio, of course...

Staying busy also suppresses the appetite. I honestly believe there is a mechanism in your body that activates an eating impulse when one is idle.

Beyond that, keeping away from prepackaged foods, sodas, and going easy on sweets should take care of most weight problems.

She now plans to organize a long-term study of the effects of a high-protein diet in humans, which might feature foods such as lean meat, soy, tofu and egg.

Unfermented soy products are much worse for you than saturated fat.

Thing is, a lot of protein sources are loaded with artery blocking stuff. It is improbable that high-protein dieters are living on tofu and beans.

Uh, soy and tofu are the same protein.

I would think she meant "dairy".

I forgot to mention that in addition to making users lose about 35% of their bodyfat over the course of a year, Acomplia has two side-effects:

1. Drives up HDL (good cholesterol)
2. Drives down triglycerides

Man, the stuff was MADE for the USA...!

Oh, BROTHER. I've never been able to figure out how, all of a sudden, the historical, traditional diet that kept humans healthy for thousands of generations suddenly got so toxic. Ah, well. I think I'll go grill myself a big, fat rib steak...

On Atkins, carbs are only severely restricted (20 carbs a day) initially as a way to detox and rid yourself from the cravings bad carbs can cause, generally that is 2 weeks, but some people decide to do it longer than 2 weeks. Carbs are gradually increased as you do this way of eating so that eventually you know how many you can have in order to maintain your weight loss. They never mention that when trashing this diet. It's not at all just fried eggs, bacon, butter and cheese. I eat a much healthier diet on Atkins than I've ever eaten in my life of fresh vegetables, fruits and lean meat, fish and chicken. If I'm hungry, I eat. More importantly, I can stick to it. I've maintained the weight loss for a year, I've never felt better and my cholesterol numbers are great. And, I have the full support of my doctor who understands how this way of eating really works.

Wow! There's so much in this article that's either completely wrong, or at least, biased misrepresentation, I don't know where to start!

"Don't know why the low carb, high protien diets work?" That's a doosey right there!

Mark

BTW, when I was on the Atkins diet, I was eating healthier than I ever had in my life before! Just because you CAN have saturated fats doesn't mean you MUST have saturated fats... And you can have carbs, just specific ones, in limited quantities.

Cut out all sugar types i.e. refined, corn syrup, simple carbs etc...that'll stop your appetite dead in its tracks.
