I agree.... this IS the issue for November.. even though some of our party elite want to punt to the next congress... this issue will decide whether Republicans can LEAD !!

c-span.org ^ | LIVE | http://c-span.org/watch/cspan2_rm.asp?Cat=TV&Code=CS2 It is getting down to the wire now... QUESTIONS... 1. Is the Senate going to pass an Immigration Bill? 2. How big of a difference is there between the House and Senate versions? 3. If it passes will the conferees be able to settle the differences?

They had a segment on the Senate bill on Lou Dobbs last night.

The Office of Budget Management estimates the Senate Bill will cost $126 BILLION over the next 10 years. After that, it becomes more expensive as the "new citizens" qualify for more benefits.

I agree with you in part, and disagree with you in part...

here is why I believe the HOUSE bill must go forward... we need "criminalize" illegal immigration so that LOCAL law enforcement can aid in the enforcement process..

I am NOT suggesting that we go out and "round up" all the known illegals in our community, which would not be all that difficult to do...

but when an illegal is arrested on other charges.. a FELONY "illegal immigration" charge should be added and processed appropriately...

in addition we need to LEGISLATIVELY prioritize border security and enforcement, we have the laws already to do so, but there is so much confusion and conflicting laws, that our system is UNmanageable....

The house bill will set the agenda, and put in place the vehicle to work the issue of illegal immigration effectively.. there are several court cases pending right now, and the USSC has already been ivolved in some of them... and to be honest I think the USSC punted the issue, waiting to see what kind of legislation congress comes up with.....

Employees of some companies who knowingly and willingly recruit and hire illegals are being sued under RICO laws and I think that is a great step in the right direction..

now congress needs to support these efforts and take the lead and give the courts the direction, and not the courts telling congress what to do... Please see Mohawk Industries v Shirley Williams [USSC Remands to 11th Circuit]

"Employees of some companies who knowingly and willingly recruit and hire illegals are being sued under RICO laws and I think that is a great step in the right direction."

This is paramount. At present, these companies are paying illegals far less than the going rate and no benefits. If the illegals or their dependents get sick, it's a trip to the emergency room that taxpayers pay for or the hospital eats.

which is precisely the reason we need the HOUSE bill.. the USSC is waiting to see what congress does.. in other words it is time for congress to do their constitutional duty and give the courts the guidance on how to proceed or we are back to square ONE... the courts telling congress what to do, and then congress complaining pointing the finger back at the courts... CALL SPEAKER HASTERT and tell him to don't miss this opportunity to LEAD !! ... FReepers must not let congress get away with the "punt" approach to the immigration debate
