"As-Sahab Releases 'Jihad Poems of Sheikh Abu Yahya al-Libi'"
By Nick Grace
September 17, 2006
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "As-Sahab, al Qaeda's media propaganda unit, today released a new 23-minute video on radical message boards called "Jihad Poems of Sheikh Abu Yahya al-Libi" that features Mohammad Hassan (alias Abu Yahya al-Libi), an al Qaeda fighter originally from Libya who escaped from Bagram prison in July 2005. He appears wearing a suicide vest as he reads handwritten notes in front of at least 14 al Qaeda militants, some of which clutch kalashnikovs. During the introduction of the video the crowd fires the weapons into the air.
This is the fourth known video to feature al-Libi. Previous as-Sahab videos that include him include a sermon in celebration of Eid, a eulogy to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and an interview about his imprisonment and escape from Bagram. Unlike most of as-Sahab's recent video products, this new video is not subtitled in English.
An animated gif banner was posted in advance on the Ekhlaas Forum, the main portal for al Qaeda messaging, on Friday, September 15."

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Office of the Spokesman
This information is current as of today, Sun Sep 17 2006 03:43:04 GMT-0700.
Worldwide Caution
June 06, 2006
This Public Announcement updates information on the continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against Americans and interests overseas. This supersedes the Worldwide Caution dated December 12, 2005 and expires on December 6, 2006.
The Department of State remains concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks, demonstrations and other violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests overseas. Americans are reminded that demonstrations and rioting can occur with little or no warning. The publication in the international press of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, for example, led to widespread demonstrations and riots in several countries.
The March 2006 bombing near the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, illustrates the continuing desire of al-Qaida to strike official American targets. Current information suggests that al-Qaida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks against U.S. interests in multiple regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. These attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics to include assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings and bombings.
Extremists may elect to use conventional or non-conventional weapons, and target private interests or soft targets with a reduced security posture. Examples of such targets include high-profile sporting events, residential areas, business offices, clubs, restaurants, hotels, places of worship, schools, public areas and locales where Americans gather in large numbers, including during holidays. Financial or economic targets of value may also be considered as possible venues; the failed attack on the Abqaiq oil processing facility in Saudi Arabia in late February 2006 is one such example.
In the wake of the July 2005 London bombings and the March 2004 train attacks in Madrid, Americans are reminded of the potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems. In addition, extremists may also select aviation and maritime services as possible targets.
U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster their personal security. For additional information, please refer to A Safe Trip Abroad found at http://travel.state.gov.
U.S. Government facilities worldwide remain at a heightened state of alert. These facilities may temporarily close or periodically suspend public services to assess their security posture. In those instances, U.S. embassies and consulates will make every effort to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens. Americans abroad are urged to monitor the local news and maintain contact with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
As the Department continues to develop information on any potential security threats to U.S. citizens overseas, it shares credible threat information through its Consular Information Program documents, available on the Internet at http://travel.state.gov. In addition to information on the Internet, travelers may obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the U.S. or outside the U.S. and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444.
FYI
NY State Mushroom Recall
The NY State Department of Health is recalling about 10 thousand cases of mushrooms potentially contaminated with a harmful bacteria. They say random testing has identified the potentially dangerous listeria monocytogenes bacteria. In cases of fresh sliced Baby Bella Mushrooms and fresh sliced white mushrooms, by Monterey Mushrooms of Watsonville. The mushrooms were distributed to retail stores and produce markets in 7 states including New York and have code dates 237 through 247. The Health Department says bacteria may not be removed by washing. Symptoms including high fever, severe headaches and diarrhea. So far no illnesses have been reported.
India accuses Pakistan of heavily subsidising UJC groups, and also of providing the groups with training and equipment. However, the dependency of each group on Islambad varies. HuM and HM receive much of their income from religious charities, for instance, while JeM is almost wholly dependent upon Pakistan. Other funds for militants arrive from al-Qaida, sympathetic individual Pakistanis, Kashmiris who live overseas, drug trafficking, and religious foundations based in countries around the worldAnother source http://www.ict.org.il/inter_ter/orgdet.cfm?orgid=14 says at least one of the 17 terrorist groups under the MJC umbrella also receives donations from sympathizers in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf and Islamic states and from Pakistanis and Kashmiris.
The source and amount of HUM's military funding are unknown. The organization may recieve an unknown amount of monetary support from Pakistan. It is a member of the United Jihad Council [Muttahida Jihad Council - MJC] set up in 1994 by Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence agency. Among the other member organizations: Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen, Al-Jihad, Al-Barq, Ikhwan-ul-Mussalmin, Tariq-ul-Mujahideen.The MJC chairman Syed Salahuddin went to Saudi late last winter http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2006\01\04\story_4-1-2006_pg7_53 and to meet with Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) faction, who's now apparently living in Saudi. Supposedly, they discussed "track-II diplomacy", the composite dialogue process and APHCs reunification. (Track-ll diplomacy involves Track II diplomacy involves actors representing non-governmental organizations engaged in activity at the grassroots level and back channel measures. Track II diplomacy is important in maintaining support at the local level for negotiated agreements and terms to a peace settlement. APHC's an alliance of secessionist parties and leaders, as a political front to further the cause of Kashmiri separatism) I'm not sure which "track" involved strapping a bomb on your chest to blow up schoolkids. I wrote about it in http://cuppapolitics.blogspot.com/2006/03/wed-like-to-teach-world-to-sing-jihad.html -- many apologies for the link. It's just a little better formatted over there, and the links are easier to click to. Thanks for your time, will go back to "lurking."

Gunshots fired at Oslo synagogue
Jerusalem Post ^ | Sep. 17, 2006 | JPOST.COM STAFF
Posted on 09/17/2006 8:55:44 AM PDT by claudiustg
A shooting at an Oslo synagogue on Sunday caused damage to the building but wounded no one. Police who arrived on the scene after the incident identified at least ten bullet holes in the shul's windows and exterior wall.
The identity of the shooter was unknown and he has yet to be apprehended, although passers-by reported that they saw the gunman fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting.
According to the Norwegian press, the attack prompted the Israeli consulate in Oslo to up its security measures.
In the past few months, Oslo has been the scene of a number of anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist incidents, including an attack on the synagogue last month, where an unknown perpetrator smashed glass windows and scrawled graffiti on the site after defecating near the entrance.
Sunday's shooting came less than a week after an Al Qaida plot targeting the site was uncovered. Following the exposure of an Italian cell's intention to attack the synagogue, police had said that they would take steps to secure the synagogue, but did not detail what they intended to do.
I would think the airlines and Customs & Immigration
would be good sources of tracking this for US officials .... and increased chatter. Question is whether or not they would tell us if they've noted a sizable increase in Muslims getting out via the airlines. Think they would?
