Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - September 2006

Posted on 09/01/2006 8:57:29 PM PDT by nwctwx

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Five Years Later, We're Still Not Safe
-Full Story-

In the five years since terrorists flew hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Americans have accepted inconvenience, sacrificed personal liberties and paid billions of dollars for a security clampdown that touches virtually every aspect of their lives.

And we're still not safe.

A close examination of the federal government's homeland security effort shows that there have been major accomplishments since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. But it also reveals how vulnerable the nation remains to catastrophe.

Threat Matrix : Code of Conduct
Please pay close attention:

***Updated FR Excerpt and Link Only or Deny Posting List due to Copyright Complaints***

There will be NO bashing any mods, it will be taken private or there will be NO MORE Threat Matrix !!! That comes from the top!

Please everyone here review the following rules, they are not posted just for fun, they must be adhered to!

Do lead by example - Nothing improves a forum more than posters who reason sharply, write well, and have some perspective about it all. Be one of them.

Do preview - Preview twice, post once. And, ahem, close your HTML tags before you hit the reply button.

Do keep it clean - A bruise or two between Freepers is tolerable, but refrain from abusive attacks, engaging in senseless flame wars, and using profane language. Considering the range of topics we discuss, it's hard to be a family site, but that's what we aim for when at all possible.

Do "take it to the Alley" - The Alley is a public chat room. A link to it is provided on the latest posts page. Invite people there if you want to talk things over or settle a score, so to speak, off site.

Do use common sense - If you read a post that sounds too good or strange to be true, it probably is.

Do stay on topic - FR has varied topics for whatever you need to say

Do keep "vanity" posts to a minimum - Free Republic is primarily a place to discuss news, articles, and editorials. Vanity posts, creations of the poster him or herself, should meet a high standard of quality before one is even considered worthy of posting.

Don't jump threads - If you get involved in an argument in one thread, it's considered poor manners to restart the previous argument in the middle of an unrelated thread.

Don't play games - Don't represent yourself as another person, create or use another screen name to avoid a revocation of posting privileges, misrepresent the site or your role in it

We cannot stress the following enough:
{{{Don't be a whiner - If you really, really find Free Republic or Threat Matrix not to your liking, let the webmaster know directly (, learn to live with it, or move along.}}}

"Suicide Bomber" flew on RP plane

Snip: A MAN WEARING a jacket and carrying a bag was able to sneak a bomb onto a flight from Manila to Davao City last month at the height of the nationwide security alert after Britain uncovered a plot to blow up transatlantic planes.

The man pulled off the same stunt on the return flight to Manila.

Had he detonated the bomb, he would have turned the commercial plane into a fireball and killed himself, the crew and hundreds of other passengers.

The man turned out to be a civilian antiterrorism expert tapped by a government official to test security measures at Philippine airports after British police foiled a plan to blow up US-bound planes in midair using liquid explosives.

RECAP On The Net...

"Coming soon. Ayman al Zawahiri and Azzam the American will invite the world to Islam"

August 31, 2006
New Video Coming From Ayman al-Zawahiri and American Al Qaeda (updated)
By Andrew Cochran

Rita Katz's SITE Institute and Laura Mansfield, each of whom we rely upon for reliable information on upcoming Al Qaeda videos, have seen an announcement by Al Qaeda's As-Sahab media arm of a forthcoming new video. The video is titled, "“Invitation to Islam” and includes Al Qaeda #2 Ayman al-Zawahiri and a man who appears to be "Azzam the American," a.k.a. Adam Gadahn. The banner announcing the video is posted on Laura's site. Al-Zawahiri's last video was released in early August.

Warning signs

Snip: The most shocking thing about the Centanni-Wiig "conversion" is the silence that has followed. First, there is silence from Islam. Shouldn't Muslim religious leaders, and particularly "beautiful and kind-hearted" Palestinian Muslim religious leaders, vehemently condemn the forced conversions? As Mr. Bostom put it, "Will such Muslim authorities at least recognize the acute predicament of Centanni and Wiig by issuing a fatwa stating that their 'conversion,' being under duress, was not bona fide, condemning in advance any Muslim who might now attack these journalists for 'apostasy' from Islam?"

Muslim who used SUV in attack mentally unstable?

Snip: When Omeed Aziz Popal used his SUV as a weapon of mass destruction against 18 innocent Bay Area victims on Tuesday, the liberal media immediately went into cover-up mode based on PC etiquette and distortion standards prevalent in most newsrooms. Rather than describing Popal as an Islamic Jihadist who used his black Honda to gather souls for Allah, the media tried to paint the killer as a victim of “mental instability.”

Basic Muslim behaviors

Snip: A Saudi man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for enslaving and sexually assaulting his housekeeper. His defense was that these were basic Muslim behaviors and that he had the right to do them..

Germany to revise law to crack down on terror websites

Snippets: Germany plans to revise its internet laws in an effort to crack down on certain websites which police said had fueled recent terror threats, local reports said on Friday.

Experts estimate that there are about 5,000 Islamist websites but this does not include several thousand chat rooms in which terrorist groups and individuals keep in contact with each other.

From a post on the main board:

"Remember, a call to convert to Islam is important--it absolves the Muslim from any guilt in the subsequent murder of the infidels."

Thanks to a Special Freepmailer for pointing to this article:

"Bin Laden manhunt still drawing a blank"

© 2006 The Associated Press

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "AFGHANISTAN-PAKISTAN BORDER — The al-Qaida terror camps are gone from Afghanistan, but the enigma of Osama bin Laden still hangs over these lawless borderlands where tens of thousands of U.S. and Pakistani troops have spent nearly five years searching for him.

Villagers say the CIA missed by only a few miles when it targeted bin Laden's top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, with a missile strike in January. Then in May, U.S. Special Forces arrested one of al-Zawahri's closest aides, suggesting the trail has not gone entirely cold."
