Jessica Simpson has developed an illness affecting her vocal cords. As a result, she cannot sing. This comes just as Simpson was preparing to kick off the tour promoting her latest album, "A Public Affair."
Simpson's publicist, Rob Shuter, stated that "She sounds a little off, but, you know, she can't sing."
Well, yeah, but what has being sick done to her voice?
I have heard Simpson's singing. I have even sat through the painful ordeal of watching her "A Public Affair" video on the Fan. I thought it was one of the most inane and vapid things I had ever seen. At least with root canals you can get Nitrous Oxide.
I know, I know: if Simpson is such a non-issue, why on earth an I writing about her? I am writing about this to point out the fact that to the media, this is a headline-worthy story. Nothing about the war in Iraq; nothing about the abridgement of our First Amendment rights thanks to the federal courts upholding of Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act. Nope, that's all B-section news. But Simpson is Front-page stuff!
This is what the press thinks we want to see. This is how shallow the press thinks that Americans are. At what point will Americans stop eating what the press feeds us?

I agree most heartily, why on earth would the celebrity press waste good cover space on a non-entity like Jessica Simpson and her so-called singing voice when there are far more important things to concern ourselves with.

I have never understood her popularity. She seems like a likeable person, is reasonably pretty in the face, and has an overly sexy body. Not much other talent there.

Since whwn does she need to have a voice to "perform"? Last I heard, she likes to lip-sync anyway....
