Today In New Orleans, President Bush Discussed The Lessons Our Nation Has Learned Since Katrina, The Work That Has Been Done, And The Many Challenges That Still Lie Ahead. One year ago today, Southeast Louisiana was struck by a cruel hurricane and flooding on a massive scale.
The President has returned to New Orleans to reiterate his commitment and to report what the Federal government is doing to make good on its promises.
However, the one-year anniversary is not the finish line, and many challenges still remain.

Enjoy your Tuesday visit to Sanity Island
See post 101, snugs....THANK YOU!!!
This photo and the one that precedes it where the President is waiting behind Laura for his blessing are my favorites. There is the Leader of the Free World, and he has the humility of a child asking for a blessing. The little children who are too young to receive the Eucharist all fold their arms as broadly as the President has done when they walk up to the altar at Mass.
Done packing?
:-)
Do you leave tomorrow?
If so, have a safe trip and look forward to hearing from you from DC.
The prediction now (or that last prediction I heard) says Ernesto will veer east once it meets Florida and head straight for NC :( But it probably won't amount to anything, which will disappoint the MSM ;)
I have a bad feeling they are moving up the date....
Sorry to hear that, Buddy.
RE: Mayor Nagin . . . I just detest the man. I felt sorry for Laura for having to sit next to him at supper last night! He is such a slime. All that money given to him, and parts (most?) of the city are still a wreck. Of course, it's not HIS fault . . . oh, no . . . not at all. GGGRRRR.
Going out to walk the dogs....be right back...
Oh...I know...the PEOPLE both W and Laura have to deal with, and be nice to....I'd puke!
Or...I'd make "empty bus" jokes all evening ;-)
Will put this on your toaster
I know next to nothing about this, but from what I've seen of British services (Diana's funeral, Charles wedding, etc.) all the women wear hats.
But very seldom do I see women wearing hats here in the States. Somewhere in the last 30 for 40 years they just went out of style, I guess.
That looks like the Andrex puppy (soft toilet paper sold in Britain - they use that puppy to advertise it).
Oh yeah--she's the one that stakes out an aisle seat and wears a bright red dress so the cameras will spot her :-/
Don't think we get Lipton's onion soup mix in Britain but batchelors do good soup mix and the own brand from the stores I use also does good soup especially Scotch Broth which they use lamb instead of beef.
Thanks, Deb :) And thank you as always for posting those great links!
Oh yes the file photo along with loaded caption one of their favourite tactics.
. . . a big 'you're welcome' for the links.
I'm off to watch the rest of the President's speech!
Night all!
Got it thanks
I'm praying, praying. I don't know how you do it.
That's just sad, having both your men over there.
(But it worked out OK for me. :)
Most of the time I don't even READ the Yahoo captions. They are dripping with condescension for this good man, and they don't usually bother getting the facts straight either.
Just get the basics from them and throw out the rest.........that's my motto. ;)
