Webb Ahead of Allen in Latest Poll (47.9% - 46.6% = Load of Zogby Macaca)

WASHINGTON -- The Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Virginia has pulled ahead of his incumbent opponent.

According to an independent Wall Street Journal/Zogby poll, Jim Webb is leading over Republican Senator George Allen.

The poll puts Webb at 47.9 percent and Allen at 46.6 percent.

The new poll shows a 12 point swing since mid-July, when Zogby had Senator Allen leading over Webb by 11 points.

The Wall Street Journal reports that John Zogby attributes the swing to comments that Allen made on August 11.

During a campaign rally, Allen called a rival campaign worker of Indian descent "macaca," which is a word that refers to a genus of monkeys, but can also be considered an insult.

Video of the event was posted online, and Allen was criticized for his behavior.

Allen said he had made up the word and later apologized.

The poll was conducted from August 15 - 21 and has a margin of error of 3.2 percent.

I'm not surprised! I think Allen can win.

Not meaning any disrespect, but it could be argued Webb's ancestors committed a bit of treason on their own. Anyway most voters do not really express their feelngs in the hyperbolic manner that we do on the internet. While calling the DUMS the party of treason here on FR may be acceptable, it's not how most people think or feel when they meet each other at the supermarket. These folks may very well be impressed by Webb's personal and family bona fides.

My guess is Webb will not get more than token support from the DNC. Two reasons; His opposition to the war in Iraq is grounded in what he feels is its acting as a distraction from GWOT. He is all for maintaining and using our military and he believes in them. the Moonbats don't. Secondly, wounding Allen now does the DUMS no good. In their mind a conservative they can tar as Bush lite is a better target than a maverick war hero like McCain or a RINO with emotional credentials like Giuliani. We've already seen the start of the attacks on Rudy's 9/11 performance. The DUMS are looking to , in their own words, swiftboat Rudy. My guess is they don't expect Webb to win and will be horrified if he does.

Webb is an opportunist. He was courted thinking he would ride the tide of power with the donks taking control of the reins. Webb will go down in history as just a pimple on a jackaasses a**. Everything Webb has done in his past will now be forgotten by those whom help him accomplish them. Webb sold his soul to the devil, and he is going to get severely burned for it.

This poll corresponds with my sentiments of the week regarding Allen. I would never want, support or vote for Webb or any democrat but I will say that Allen has been losing my faith in him since he began caving to the liberals like Trent Lott did and traveled the nation apologising for using a "racist term" he claimed he didn't mean as a racist term. Well, next week I expect him to be in some black church and maybe even supporting racial quotas.

The man has been showing his weakness over the last week to week and a half. Caving into the left is NOT in the interest of the conservative movement. We've had way too much of this even as a majority party.

Enough is enough.

Allen has brought more attention to this whole story since his apologies began than the liberal media ever did by reporting the original story.

opportunist

Absolutely. If he had a problem with the GOP he should have followed Ronald's 11th Commandment and worked it out within the party.

What he is doing is pissing on Reagan's grave, which is despicable.

Interesting take.

I never cared much for apologizing.

Look how Jean Schmidt of Ohio compromised herself, much like Allen.

And what have the Bush family been doing since 1988? What has the GOP been doing since 2000?

They name buildings after RWR, then undo every conservative initiative he ever accomplished.

And make no mistake about it - "Kinder, gentler ..." and "Compassionate conservative" were direct swipes at Reagan's beliefs.

(Reagan's grave)

This thread is about webb, not Bush.

Yours is the type of response I would expect to see on Liberty Post.

There's no doubt the race has tightened. But this is a pile of Clinton.

Zogby was calling Virginia for Kerry on election day in 2004. I was going bat-**** here on FR trying to calm folks down because I knew it was bogus. Bush took Virginia by almost 9 pts.

The Poll, by a "friend" of mine...

I'm curious as to recent elections. Do you know where I can find numbers to see race by race how the various polling companies have done in recent years?

Even the diehard Dems in my part of Virginia have no use for Webb.

"Genuine heroes dont stab their mentor in the back after he's dead, and join the party of socialism and treason."

Idiocy. But the kind of idiocy I've come know and love from some of you "Chicken Hawk conservatives" that can call a Navy Cross winner names- Real big guys when it comes to slinging rhetoric over the internet, but missing in action when the fight's on..

I don't agree with Jim Webb's choice of party and I don't agree with his position on the war in Iraq, but he's a far better man than the one he's opposing (a football player?)and a far better man than those of you that never darkened the door of a recruiting center during time of war.

He's a courageous man and no amount of disagreement - or inarticulate guttersniping - can change that.

Yes, I remember.

Mary Matalin assured everyone on TV Bush would take Virginia. "I would bet my life on it," she said.

Yep, and they purposely withheld the exit polls to try to influence voting out west.

webb did the equivalent of throwing his medals away when he sold out for opportunism to the likes of kerry and schumer, stabbed his dead mentor Reagan in the back, and joined the party of treason, socialism, taxes, crime and welfare.
