Stevie Nicks Gives iPods To Wounded Soldiers
Starpulse Blog ^ | 6/23/06 | Unattributed

Posted on 08/26/2006 5:57:16 PM PDT by Huntress

Singer Steve Nicks is doing her part to support U.S. troops by donating hundreds of iPods to soldiers wounded in Iraq. The former Fleetwood Mac star regularly visits soldiers at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

She explains, "I refuse to be pulled into the politics of war. But once these soldiers sign up, go to war and come back to a hospital, I will do whatever it takes to make them better." Nicks has provided iPods loaded with her music, along with fellow artists Aerosmith and Elvis Presley.

She has also sent baby clothes to war widows, joined bedside vigils and with the United Service Organization (USO), hopes to provide every returning soldier with a music player. She adds, "Any one of them could be my own child. You can't help falling in love with every one of them."

My song...sigh....

Stevie just released a book and I've been waiting for 3 weeks since I've placed my order. It is sold out everywhere from what I've been told.

She is my favorite, all time favorite everything.

There was an expression that went around during my military stint back in 1978. It was called "Stevie Nicks, sit on my f#ce".

Sorry but this just brought back some memories.

That's quite all right. Thank you, by the way, for reminding me of that expression. Hadn't thought of it in years. :-)

Tom Petty is my all time favorite and when these two did that song I got goose bumps. There is a song on her latest "Trouble in Shangri-La" that is about her going to Tom for some help on this album, I forget what it is called.

I just saw her last year in Vegas, 4th row. Every time she would start to do a twirl, the audience went crazy. I actually cried right before she came out, I was so moved (and so close to her). Here I am, a 42 yr old woman crying. Her music and words just speak to me.

She just released a book. My fiance ordered it for me and it's been 3 weeks. I guess it is selling out!! Good for her.

That photo is also in the the booklet of her "Best of" CD along with her song Desert Angel which was "Written for all the men and women involved in 'Operation Desert Storm'."

The flag was sent to her by Gulf War veteran, Sgt. Robert M. Garcia. Part of her reply to receiving the flag is, "...I can only write songs when I am totally inspired...and the flag that you, Sgt. Robert M. Carcia, sent me is something that makes me feel something that I wish I could explain to you, but I can't. Yes, when you washed it out for me, the colors did ring true..."

A late reply, but Trey and Matt may have picked up the "Goat" monicker from David Letterman, who referred to Ms. Nicks as "The Goat Woman of Rock & Roll" for years back when he was still on NBC.

"April 9, 1976 (says so right at the start of the video)

Thanks. I knew it was mid-70s. I was 26, married father on the way up the corp. ladder.

We'd get baby sitters, go out for dinner and drinks. Maybe dance a little.

But be sure to be home (somebody's home) in time for "Midnight Special."

Good times.

Lindsey Buckingham, in one live event on PBS (years ago) played an amazing solo at the end of "Chain"... I was mesmerized, I don't mind telling you.

Can't find that particular performance on Youtube yet :/

The one that always amazed me is the solo in I'm So Afraid. There's a live concert version of it on YouTube, but Buckingham's more recent performance on The Dance was even better, if that's possible. His acoustic rendition of Big Love is astonishing, too.

The guy is truly a mad genius of the guitar. All that musical talent can't hide the fact that there's something askew about him. Ever seen his old video of Holiday Road? The tune has this happy, upbeat feel to it, but the video is a deliberate downer. He overreached in some of his cover recordings, too. His interpretation of Here Comes The Sun at a tribute event to the late George Harrison was nearly unrecognizable.

All of the "fingerstyle" guitarists are amazing; I've recently been scouring YouTube for Mark Knopfler material. There's lots of good material out there with he and Clapton on stage together. They both make it look *way* too easy.

Boston.

Don't look back.

Don't look back
A new day is breakin'
It's been too long since I felt this way
I don't mind where I get taken
The road is callin'
Today is the day

I can see
It took so long to realize
I'm much too strong
Not to comprimise
Now I see what I am is holding me down
I'll turn it around

I finally see the dawn arrivin'
I see beyond the road I'm drivin'
Far away and left behind

It's a new horizon and I'm awakin' now
Oh I see myself in a brand new way
The sun is shinin'
the clouds are breakin'
'Canse I can't lose now, there's no game to play

I can tell
There's no more time left to criticize
I've seen what I could not recognize
Everthing in my life was leading me on
but I can be strong

I finally see the dawn arrivin'
I see beyond the road I'm drivin'
Far away and left behind

My disposition is in a position for all to see.
Regretless for how it feels.
I got a bullet with a name on it. Bullet with a name.

There's a cause for all the pause you think you see.
Is really concentration on the steal.
I got a bullet with a name on it. Bullet with a name.

See everybody watching and passing judgment on
Every little move and decision I make,
How can I be an individual with the weight of world with 8 other planets to take.
And with everything happening,
Gunshots clappin,
And people all running in every direction with
Their hands up prayin for the drama to end.
I got my hand out lookin for some money to spend.

The price tags on the things I need are getting bigger by the day.
I got a bullet with a name on it. Bullet with a name.

The way I work so hard for things,
they just take away from me.
I got a bullet with a name on it. Bullet with a name.

I'm workin harder than 100 black mules down in Mexico.
No water, no cloud, no cover, from the hotter than hell,
No dinner bell, empty oven again from another bad opinion.
I'm mean who doesn't want the cars,
Money, fame, attention, bars, honey's, games, attention, stars,
Funny how we say we don't need it,
Then turn around and try achieve it.

The price tags on the things I need are getting bigger by the day.
I got a bullet with a name on it. Bullet with a name.

The way I work so hard for things, they just take away from me.
I got a bullet with a name on it. Bullet with a name.

And everything that they say about me
And everything that they make me need
Are nothing when they're taking everything away from me.
Everyone trying to make it harder,
and everyone saying I would never be.
You're nothing but a name, on the bullet that I aim.....
Oh the bullet that I aim....the bullet that I aim

The price tags on the things I need are getting bigger by the day.
I got a bullet with a name on it. Bullet with a name.

The way I work so hard for things, they just take away from me.

My Favorite from back when.

One of mine, too- thanks for rekindling old memories... much good, much bad... much happy, much sad- but they make us what we are today. Still have that album, somewhere.

Knopfler shook up a lot of musicians when, seemingly out of nowhere, his group, Dire Straits, released that first album.

That Chet Atkins HBO special with Mark Knopfler is available on DVD, I think.

He does make it look easy...
