Stevie Nicks Gives iPods To Wounded Soldiers
Starpulse Blog ^ | 6/23/06 | Unattributed

Singer Steve Nicks is doing her part to support U.S. troops by donating hundreds of iPods to soldiers wounded in Iraq. The former Fleetwood Mac star regularly visits soldiers at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

She explains, "I refuse to be pulled into the politics of war. But once these soldiers sign up, go to war and come back to a hospital, I will do whatever it takes to make them better." Nicks has provided iPods loaded with her music, along with fellow artists Aerosmith and Elvis Presley.

She has also sent baby clothes to war widows, joined bedside vigils and with the United Service Organization (USO), hopes to provide every returning soldier with a music player. She adds, "Any one of them could be my own child. You can't help falling in love with every one of them."

This is a position one can respect.

And I'm sure those soldiers and their widows do.

This is real class.

You prove that no good deed goes unpunished.

Whether or not she's behind the war politically, she's proven that she's behind the soldiers and the families of fallen soldiers.

Why does it always seem that no good deed goes unpunished around here?

It's still hard to take a womyn by the name of "Stevie" seriously....but good for her anyhow.

I'd like to know (naw...I can already guess) who she voted for during the last Presidential election. I smell a "...need to ressurect career" thing going on, even if she has to hold her nose.

Maybe you'd like to demean this to? Get over yourself. No one is worshiping her, just appreciative.

I thought it was such a stupid, witless remark I let it go. That person's reward is to be himself.

But right you are, the bile just keeps dripping from some!

You imply that giving iPods is a trivial or inappropriate gesture. I disagree. I think they are an excellent gift for young wounded vets. Listening to music allows them to pass the time during a hospital stay and provides a distraction from the pain of their injuries.

The damage that living in bitterness can cause both the body and soul is not worth it.

Of course Stevie Nicks gets it. I believe she was a military brat. Those of us that grew up living at military base to base during the 50's and 60's had a rather unique education.

Sounds like she needs to make another few records for me to buy. Or go to one of her concerts if she ever tours again.

Could it be possible she has a heart?

What possible good does cynicism do? I can't figure it.

No, her voice is gone. I went to a Stevie concert last year which was great fun because everyone went there dressed up like her but she could not hit the high notes. She kept it as close to her range as she could, gave her all, and had a sparkling band. It was the best she could do. This isn't about jumpstarting a career, it's pretty much all over because she can no longer sing much at all. She's busy promoting other young singers, and helping wounded vets and it shows a lot of maturity and class.
