ROCKTON -- Rockton leaders snuff out an idea to ban smoking at public places.
Tuesday night at their meeting, a motion to draft an ordinance banning smoking in public places failed to get anywhere. Rockton Village Trustee Dennis Meade put the issue before board members, but no one seconded the motion.
The proposal would've kept people from lighting up on streets, sidewalks, parks and in businesses. Several community members including business owners spoke out at the meeting against a ban saying it would hurt their business.
Others claimed it a ban would go against their rights. One person at the meeting spoke out in support of a ban.
Good for Rockton. The nanny-state smoke nazis make me sick.
They can keep on a-puffin' at the Wagon Wheel!
the Wagon Wheel burned down ten or twelve years ago.
I can't believe there are three freepers who actually know where Rockton, Il is! I live in Roscoe.
I'm in northern Maine..................
They still fear the torches and pitchforks in those places.
I live in Davis.
Thanks for the ping!
It must be a small town where being ridden out of town on a rail is still possible.
Thinking about Rockton standing up to "nanny-statism" has reminded me of how several years ago I could no longer burn leaves, branches, etc. on MY acreage just west of Rockford in Winnebago County.
My brother lives in Rockford. I don't know where Rockton is and I lived in IL twice.
Here's a letter that I send to lawmakers across the globe whenever a smoking ban is being considered.
