Best and worst commercials of the year
MSNBC ^ | Aug 22, 2006 | Gael Fashingbauer Cooper

Only one commercial can top the sheer hatred our readers have for the winner of this year's worst-commercial contest. Yes, only creepy, toenail-snapping Digger the Dermatophyte is more hated than the horrendous repetition that is this year's winning loser, the HeadOn headache remedy commercial.

In case you haven't seen it (you can find it on YouTube, but really, why would you want to?), the commercial is as insanely simple as it is annoying. A female voice repeats "HeadOn: Apply directly to the forehead!" three times as a blissed-out smug woman rolls what appears to be a Bonne Bell LipSmacker on her head.

What in the name of a glue stick in disguise is going on there? First off, does anyone believe that this works any better than, say, rubbing your head with your hand? Who decided that a commercial where only the product name and tagline are repeated over and over was good advertising? What kind of drugs is the model in the ad actually on? And does anyone know anyone who has ever, ever used this product, or seen it for sale anywhere outside these ads?

I hate Bob and his erectile dysfunction ads. Although, I keep wondering how someone can go through daily life after being in that commercial.

With a generous swelling of pride?

I like the Little Richard Geico commercial - I think it's funny. Also, the Capitol One pillager commercials are hilarious.

My vote for the worst commercials are:

* That smarmy twit in the Progessive commercial (the one sitting by himself in the empty statium complaining that he must be the only person not to switch to Geico)
* The Head-On commercial (nuff said.)
* That insufferable Dr. Z.
* The Geico commercial with Burt Bacarach where he looks like some spooky figure from a wax museum
* That stupid Sonic commercial with the two guys sitting in the car and the one guy is babbling something about 'that's what separates the men from the boys'. Ugh.

Worst. Commercial. Ever.

"The Forward--The Nation's Jewish Newspaper" with that pompous ass announcer listing their liberal agenda like it's some kind of religious obligation. I just want to puke whenever I hear it.

I suppose if you don't watch ESPN or the NFL channel you may not have seen the ads for fantasy football but they are funny, funny, funny.

My favorite is the one with the guy who can't pronounce the name of his draft pick. "T.J. Housemandidee. Who? T.J. Whosyourmamma. Do you mean T.J. Houshmandzadeh of the Cincinnatii Bengals? Thats it! Put in on the board. Championship.

Here's another vote for Little Richard.

It's the only commercial that I un-mute!

Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, and Cranberry Sauce...Whoooooo!

I get that way about food, too.

You know, I never really paid attention to that ad but assumed that it was a conservative paper since it was advertised there. Guess I was way off!

That first one when the Cavemen walk off the set was awesome. Good call.

I also like the Fed Ex when the guy makes the recommendation about cutting costs and the boss says the same thing and gets all the praise from the lackeys.

My favorite radio ads are those "real men of genius" commercials. There's one about boneless buffalo wings. When the singer guy in the background sings, "I hope I'm not eating rear end," I nearly drove off the road laughing.

The British accented Geko drives me nuts.
Causes an instant 'mute' or 'channel' punch.

IMHO,The best commercials are during the NASCAR races.
Esp like the Carl Edwards/ Mark Martin commercial with Mark supposedly back flipping across the room.

"Crazy old man" LOL

Or the "Newman!" commercial.

Next year Martinsville.

A great place to watch a race.

Park an RV on the hillside and eat the hot dogs.

The drug commercials hafta GO! I think it's only going to get worse. I'm a boomer and I just figure eventually all the commercials will be for this garbage, along with depends, and all that other depressing junk. Probably will soon see commercials for assisted living homes too. I've never seen one so far.

It's supposed to be for headaches but they really don't tell you in the commercial - it's the most aggravating and annoying thing I've ever seen.
