U.S. men, women still worlds apart
Washington Times ^ | August 18, 2006 | Jennifer Harper

Vive la difference: Despite feminists, metrosexuals and gender-neutral language, we just can't surrender those old ways. Men, it seems, are still chivalrous, protective of their womenfolk and perhaps endearingly stubborn about certain things. And women? They like to shop, they're fastidious, and yes, they will ask for directions.

"American men and women tend to embrace many well-known sexual stereotypes, admitting to patterns of behavior commonly attributed to their gender," according to a poll released yesterday by the Scripps Survey Research Center at Ohio University.

"Recall that male passengers on the Titanic agreed to give up their places on the lifeboats for women and children," the researchers said in framing their question to more than 1,000 Americans. "If there were a similar life-or-death situation today, do you think men should be expected to die and allow women to live?"

Almost two thirds of the men -- a manly 63 percent -- said they should be expected to lay down their lives. Only 39 percent of the women agreed; 43 percent of the ladies, in fact, thought the idea was "old-fashioned," compared with 23 percent of the men.

Females had a practical edge: While almost half the men said that someone had told them that they were reluctant to ask for directions, the number was just 13 percent among women. And 65 percent of the guys had run out of gas while driving, compared with 47 percent of their feminine counterparts.

What does he mean by feminine counterparts? Did he really mean to say female? Or maybe he's talking about the metrosexuals and homosexuals. If he's talking about females, how does he know they're feminine? They could be pretty butch.

LOL!

I run out of gas - not because I am afraid to ask for directions....

I am too lazy to pump my own gas....

how many times I mowed the lawn thinking- what the heck is this all about...I got married so I WOULDN'T have to do this!- LOL! but- that mowing the lawn has the same effect on me as it does men....

afterwards- I always want to opena cold beer- brag about breaking a sweat, and sit on the couch with the clicker in one hand- and the other hand in the ol' Al Bundy position!

;-)

Could it be? Is it possible that Larry Summers was... *GASP* ...right?

Hey, maybe there really is an inherent difference between men and women!

Are there really that many idiots in the country who need a story like this to explain that fact?

"Would it be too much to ask that this not become a Crevo Crap thread?"

Hadn't crossed my mind to turn it into a Creation thread.

How's this, if you don't turn this into a godless evilution thread, I won't mention CREATION. I really don't need to since this article supports God's design. Maybe that's what's pissing you off.

I recall a joke after the first Gulf War. A person who had been in Iraq before the war noticed that back then the women had to walk behind the men and now women were walking in front of the men. The person congratulated a man walking behind his wife and asked what had changed his attitude towards women. He said "land mines".

As advertising revenues drop, they have two choices: print crap like this or retire a couple of presses.

"OH NO! you just turned this into an evo thread."

I hadn't even thought of turning it into a Creation thread.

My, my some are VERY sensitive if now down right paranoid as Creation being true. This article supports Creation without me even mentioning it. We're simply designed differently in from the exterior to the interior. This is nothing new and proven time and time again.

Perhaps it has something to do with us being already married?

Ya mean that all of the 63% are married?

Well that's not very encouraging, now is it?

"One of the failures of second-wave feminism is the refusal to recognize that there are in fact differences between men and women," Michelle D. Bernard, president of the District-based Independent Women's Forum, said yesterday. "Recognition of these differences does not in any way relegate women to a status that is unequal to men, it merely recognizes a biological fact -- we are different. The failure to recognize this is what is hurting our relationships, our children, and our jobs."

Other recent research has emphasized the differences. A study by Ohio State University determined that comfort food preferences are "gender specific." Men crave hearty steak and potatoes, while women shamelessly want sweets. The University of Toronto found that teenage girls pen stories about romance while boys write of adventure, even in an era of "grrl power."

It's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo OBVIOUS!

Wonder how much these "studies" cost YOU!

If you get rid of the feminazis, then we'll be easier to find.

Until then, we're staying in hiding. And staying single.

Ladies, police your own. Now.
