Write the president and tell him this cease fire brought on by his administration is just another attempt to appease the terrorist. Terrorist win yet again. Iran is still trumping around in Lebanon, the UN with no real authority has no real powers to disarm hezbollah who has NOT agreed to disarm. Iran still has agents in Iraq running death squads and terror cells. Muqtada-AL-Sadr being the most famous one. When will the US buckle up and do what finally needs to be done instead of worry about oil prices? We all know what this cease fire will bring. Take action and write the president and tell him what you think of this balony BS move of his. STAND BY ISRAEL

Just following your logic. If Hezbollah won, and lefties always lose, then Nasrallah is a conservative. Would vote for Bush if he could. Something doesn't add up.
By conducting the war the way Olmert did, he has emboldened his enemies not scared them.
And it will hurt the U.S. war against terrorism by emboldening them.
Iran is propably pumping more money than Nasarallah has ever seen.
Had Olmert not hesitated, dithered and wasted a great window of opportunity,
we would not even be dicussing this now. We ALL would be celebrating with Israel.
Israel needs a new leader.
UN Security Council Resolution 1707 - Excerpt -
Emphasizing the need for an end of violence, but at the same time emphasizing the need to address urgently the causes that have given rise to the current crisis, including by the unconditional release of the abducted Israeli soldiers,
Correction - Resolution 1701, not 1707
oh, geesh....right and left computes only in the west.
I think you've been partaking of the mational media spin too much.
Thanks for correcting me HAL. I had a bad source of info, and I should have double checked. Thanks again!
I don't think he WAS Likud....I think he joined Sharon's coalition NOT as Likud.
Grreat Idea, Im on it.
Crao...we dropped leaflets also....no one but Muslims like to kill innocent people.
I think Bush and Co thought Israel would DESTROY the Hezbos in NO time!! I think they could be shocked at Olmert's indecision.
Can't go with you on this one.
I think the agreement was well done and well handled. A lot depends on what happens next and how the inevitable failure of Lebanon/Hezbollah to implement it is handled.
It certainly does not come close to ending the war, but in the scheme of things it was a net positive for our side.
The Israeli government wasn't allowing the IDF to fight to win.
They wouldn't approve the ground operations that were necessary.
The Bush administration ran interference at the UN and vetoed the attempt at a security council resolution to stop Israel from defending itself.
Israel wasn't willing to pursue victory, and their actions had ceased making measurable progress. Israel needed an exit strategy and a possibility of a political solution. This cease-fire is an attempt at providing one, but it's hard to negotiate a solution when Israel appears unwilling to do what it must to force Hezbollah and it's supporters to concede defeat.
Israel is basically putting it's faith in a UN peacekeeping force and the Lebanese government when neither is even willing to call Hezbollah terrorists.
I suspect that they will not get what they need from the second resolution, and they will either effectively concede a horrible defeat, or they will have to go back to fighting, and be willing to not just go after Hezbollah in Lebanon, but go after it's leadership in Syria as well if Syria does not turn them over.
I'm glad the illegal abduction of the Israeli soldiers was noted in the resolution, and I'm hopeful for their safe return to their families and homes.

Ehud Olmert, Political Figure
Born: 30 September 1945
Birthplace: Binyamina, Palestine (now Israel)
Best Known As: Prime minister of Israel, 2006
Ehud Olmert was sworn in as the elected prime minister of Israel on 4 May 2006. Olmert is the leader of Israel's Kadima party, which won national elections on 28 March 2006. Olmert was first elected to the Knesset in 1973, at the young age of 28. His career in government service included a decade as the mayor of Jerusalem, from 1993 through 2003. He joined the cabinet of Ariel Sharon as deputy prime minister in 2003 and later became minister of communications and finance.
A longtime member of the conservative Likud party, Olmert joined Sharon in the founding of a new centrist party, Kadima, late in 2005. When Sharon suffered a debilitating stroke on 4 January 2006, Olmert became Israel's acting prime minister. In elections ten weeks later, Kadima won 28 seats in the Knesset and the right to form the next Israeli government.
Olmert has a law degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem... In April of 2006 the Israeli cabinet declared Sharon "permanently incapacitated," moving Olmert from acting prime mininister to prime minister -- although by that time, he had already been made prime minister-elect by Kadima's victory in the March elections.
I apologoze...I thought he was a liberal weenie.
maybe you thought so because he did sign on to the unilateral withdrawal concept along with Sharon - from Gaza, and still believes in withdrawing from West Bank, apparently. but i think that is not because of "land for peace" but because Israel needs national borders defined so Israel can protect its sovereignty when P's or other enemies cross the borders.
But Bush said that Hizbollah was defeated. It can't be.

If Bush thinks that Hizbollah has been defeated, then I guess we shouldn't destroy Al-Queda and all of the other terrorist groups. Hizbollah still exists. Mr. President, terrorists are only defeated if they are all dead.
