(TV5) -- While FBI agents pour into Caro another incident breaks out in Gratiot County. At approximately 11:35am August 11th police were called to the Dollar General Store in Ithaca after a" clerk in Ithaca became suspicious after two men came into the store, and became upset when they were turned down while trying to buy several disposal cell phones.
TV5's Mike Terry spoke with the clerk who called police. She said they were two "Middle Eastern" men and said they've been coming into the store weekly and buying disposable cell phones. She said the same thing was happening at the dollar general store in Alma.
You might think the clerk became suspicious because of what was going on in Caro but when we asked the clerk she said she wasn't even aware of what was going on.
The policy at their store is that they can only sell two cell phones, per person, per day. She saw the men put the phones in the trunk of the car and when she thought they were coming back in, she called 9-1-1.
We did talk to Ithaca police while there has been no crime committed-they do want to find these men, and run their names against government watch lists.
There is some major bad going on. America we had better be ready.
I wonder if it would be possible for the police to remotely disable all the tracfones.
Always keep your eyes open and your powder dry.
I'm shocked.
Color me ignorant. What do cell phones have in them as components, which when combined together, assist in creating an explosive?
What about portable computers that have wifi connections? Should those be registered too?
Electricity. I believe they act as the detonator for the explosive itself.
Call your buddy's phone and BLAMMO!
OK, count me as clueless regarding disposable cell phones, but isn't the point that you use them and throw them away? In other words, wouldn't you need to buy them again and again?
Not to create an explosive, but to trigger one.
So they build a cell phone with a hyper electric charge or something? I never understood electricity. I thought it was a magic act.
they are used as detonators for remote-controlled bombs... set the timer (alarm or stop watch feature) on the cellphone or simply dial the cell phone connected to the bomb and boom the bomb goes off.
A timer and a battery, as well as a means of remote detonation (phone call). A cell phone is a very cheap detonator.
But why won't just one do? It seems they need many with which to build a new one that is something rather special.
Given the secrets that the NYT chose to expose, even if only for communication, why wouldn't the terrorists want tons of disposable cell phones?
They might have to regulate them. I suspect this is why NYC had a cell phone outage. I think Homeland Security may have pulled the plug while they figured out if a threat was imminent to NYC.
Sort of is. Ever wonder what is behind that socket in the wall. Don't tell noone - gerbils.
Same in a cell phone, of course. Just smaller.
Somehow I think it would be easier for the terrorists to just go to radioshack and buy the parts to build a timer or remote detonator. It wouldn't be as suspicious because most people probobly wouldn't know what the components were for.
