Pakistan: Suspected London Plane Terrorists Have Al Qaeda Connection
LONDON Police arrested 40 people in cities throughout Italy in raids on Muslim gathering places in a security crackdown after Britain thwarted an alleged terror plot, the Interior Ministry said Friday, as Pakistani intelligence agents claimed there was an connection with ties to to the group of suspected terrorists arrested Thursday.
The arrests in Italy were made Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, Naples and other cities on Thursday and Friday "as part of an extraordinary operation that followed the British anti-terrorist operation," the ministry said in a statement.
" One also, therefore, wonders if these planned bombings were supposed to be a diversion from something planned for 23 August."
Personally, I think it's the 22nd, but that withstanding, you are right on the mark!!!
Iran learned from Afganistan that the US will do something about it. Therefore they must have something very serious up their turbans real close after launching something on this scale.
I think one of the dots not being connected is Hugo Chavez's trip to N.Korea and Iran. N.Korea has uranium warheads but can't fly a missile straight. Iran has missles but no nuclear warheads. Hugo...transport them.
But wait...if Iran uses one of them on, say, Tel Aviv wouldn't the US still retaliate? Not if, say, Iran was able to convience the US that one or more of it's cities had devices ready to blow! Which city do you evacuate? For how long?
Once Iran drops a bomb they know they have to be taken seriously. Are we willing to risk losing a couple of major cities to help the Israeli's?
That is their gamble...I think that's their game.
They also know that we might just do something (since the cities are all liberal anyway [blue states] and we have a red state President)...but then we have a civil war on our hands. Again to their advantage.
Multiple, simultaneous center fuel tank anomalies.
Pigs are unclean to both møøselimbs and Jews.
Dogs are unclean only to møøslimbs...
Anyone care to speculate on what the Vatican reaction to a direct hit would be?
It would be easy to have 40 or so suicide bombers around the country detonate in crowded buildings, etc. Heck, how hard a target would a cruise ship be in open water?
I appreciated reading the article. Thanks for posting it, RC.
Now that we're on the road to banning all carry-ons, why can't the terrorists do a remote to cargo in the belly of the plane?
Germany (both Frankfurt and Munchen, maybe Berlin?) have direct flights to the US as well.
This is a war like no other war
Sadly ... many folks don't realize this and though they haven't forgotten about 9/11
They have also not learned anything from 9/11
This bann on carry-on needs to be expanded to any flight entering the U.S. I have only heard it affects flights coming from the U.K.
Talk to me like I'm in first grade. I'm new to this political scene and I don't understand what's going on.
"why can't the terrorists do a remote to cargo in the belly of the plane?"
All it takes is a cell phone to trigger it.
As an aside, whenever we pass by a neighborhood here call "Buchhurst", we say "Buchhurst, ooh ah ah" in your honor.
Is it reasonable to assume that means that they would ultimately be issued for the use of 1000 jihadi's?
Do the math. 9/11 was 19 men. We've caught about 60 bad guys this week alone. It boggles the mind what 1000 terrorists could do.
Be prepared, and stay alert. The next couple weeks could be scary, indeed.
Diplomacy-time is over.
Iowa squeaked by for President Bush in '04...
They never said, did they? Just sorta let us think the planes would, like, disapear, you know, dude?
I never thought I'd say this but flying is becoming transportation that I think I can do without.
So when does the "sweep" of terrorist suspects start in this country. So far they've just lucked into several arrests: one during a traffic stop, another when a Walmart clerk was suspicious because the customers were buying cell phones in lots of 3 (and ended up having a thousand in the car.)
