Oliver Stone's new film, "World Trade Center," got off to a promising start at the box office on Wednesday, grossing better-than-expected receipts of $4.4 million in its first day, Paramount Pictures executives said on Thursday.
They added that if the pace continued, the film about the battle to save two policemen trapped under tons of rubble in the September 11 attacks could bring in more than $20 million through its opening weekend -- a figure that would exceed expectations.
The $65 million movie, which received several strong reviews, is the first big-budget feature to be made about the suicide hijackings, although a smaller budget film "United 93" last spring grossed $31.5 million.
Many industry experts questioned whether moviegoers are ready for films about the disaster which is still fresh and painful in the minds of many Americans.

Not a single word in the article about Oliver Stone and the controversy he brings to any film.

My 9 and 10 year old daughters want to see this.
I am taking them. They are not too young to see what they will have the rest of their lifetime to fight.

I keep hearing the film is surprisingly accurate about Sept 11. But then others say there is no mention of Islam executing the terror.
So how good can this film be?

My wife and I saw the film on Thursday--It was very moving and for Stone very fair and non-political1. Maybe a tad long but I would highly recommend it . It might re-awake some Libs into reality!

saw it last night. excellent movie. it didn't need to go into who and what. it told the story of some of the heroic people who went in first that day without regards for themselves. thats what it set out to do,and it suceeded.

Where are the sensitive people who were complaining about Flight 93 being too soon?
Now it's OK for Stone to make money off of 9/11? Ok.

The Democrat Party "hates" this type of film. It brings out patriotism in the general public and that means more Republican votes!

I read a ministers review and he said it was an amazingly strong movie on Faith and God. The most inspirational film he has seen all year, and that Stone followed the two main characters accounts of the time very accurately.
I think you can have this film and it will stir the emotions. I don't think you need to remind anyone who carried out the attacks. This is about the human spirtit overcoming the attacks
I look forward to seeing it.

MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
Well, I saw the film a few weeks ago at a 'preview/premiere' here in Houston. While the film didn't mention Islam, it did mention terrorists, and everyone knows WHO hijacked the planes, so what would be the point of saying it was some nut-job Islamic wacko's? There was plenty said, often without a single word of dialogue. For those so inclined, the film DID show people flailing away as they fell (or jumped) from the towers. You heard many WHOOMP's as something hit the ground. The story isn't about the planes, or the terrorists. It is about the good that American men and women did that day. One thing I was very pleasantly surprised at was when one of the characters went into the church, sat there a while, decided God had told him to go to the WTC. So he did. His character was the one who 'found' the two PA police officers.

9-11 was about looking for surviviors and making it through the day. My Brother in Law was at the WTC on that day. I remember him describing the rescue of these guys. They were 2 of only 20 pulled out of the rubble alive. I will never forget ambulances, hospitals all waiting for causalties that never came. They were all dead. It's not about who did it...that came later.
